Lean Six Sigma and Minitab: The Complete Toolbox Guide for All Lean Six Sigma Practitioners (3rd edition)

In the SIX SIGMA courses -I got mine 4 weeks Black Belt training course in 2008- you learn a lot of tools..one of the difficulties you may experience is fitting them in a rational fashion inside the DMAIC frameset. Here it is the strong point of this book: it is a well designed summary with a complete and exhaustive set of tools smartly divided in the DMAIC structure. One can easily find when a tool can be used, how to recall it in MINITAB and how the results can be interpreted. Basically, to me, THIS IS NOT a book intended for understanding what SIX SIGMA is, it is not addressed to newcomers but has to be intended as to be a really very good schematic summary of the subject. No statistical proofings, no mathematical explanations (only few of them when necessary). 3rd edition sa been enreached by new chapters regarding DOEs and Lean matters. Also the chapters on the software Quality Companion is not that bad. I like Quality Companion: it is the perferct software for keeping track of your improvement projects and for writing nice presentations for the customer or the management about your projects ongoing.

I came to know about the `Lean Six Sigma Minitab' book through a colleague while I was preparing for my Six Sigma Black Belt Certification exam. It took me only few minutes reading to realize this book's content and material and ordered it immediately so I can have my own copy. Minitab is powerful software yet not intuitive to jump on and use it effectively unless someone had training on it. Even with introductory training and I have never taken enough time to understand it and use it effectively to its full potential till I have found this wonderful book telling me what I am looking at the screen. I am an engineer working on Continuous Improvement projects and this book is indispensable for my work and for the type of project I am working on. This particular book in my opinion is a must to have book if you are dealing with large amount of statistical data. I found the book to be more than a Minitab reference book it is also a Six Sigma practitioner's companion for a quick check on terminologies and definitions. As an engineer, I would have liked it to have more engineering related problems discussed but for what this book was intended, I do highly recommend it. I have also made a recommendation of this book for the member of Continuous Improvement Council to be used as a supplemental book in addition to the training materials. Zekarias Yohannes

Lean Six Sigma & Minitab is a great book. It provides a very concise practical review of Lean Six Sigma tools and the DMAIC process. The book also does a great job of getting you up and running on Minitab very quickly. The book provides good examples as it teaches you how to use Minitab and downloadable data files from it's web site. One caveat, the book is not 100% comprehensive. It covers the most common applications and options but specifically calls out when certain things in a given topic are beyond the scope of the book.

I bought the Lean Six Sigma & Minitab Text as it was a recommended text within my Black Belt course. I expected screenshots of how to navigate Minitab but the text offers a great deal more: 1. there is a very helpful treatment of the DMAIC cycle 2. there are screenshots and guidance on how to use Minitab but there is an equal consideration of when and why to use certain tools in various scenarios 3. I like the spiral binding as I can easily refer to the text as I move between the text and Minitab; I am a new user of Minitab and find the guidance available in the text quite helpful. The text itself is sturdy and well put together. It should be noted that within third edition, the text references Minitab 16. I have found it necessary, at times, to utilize the Appendice given the amount of information covered in the text. I have used the text for approximately three weeks and have found the information within accurate and helpful.

Lean Six Sigma and Minitab is now my primary reference to support our Lean and Six Sigma Initatives. I carry it in my briefcase as a quick reference guide and as a teaching resource. The organizational structure of the book is exceptional and the downloadable templates provided for use with the book are used daily. I found the section on using Minitab Quality Companion to be exceptionally helpful in navigating through the set up of some custom data entry screens. One last small thing; I find the spiral bound format to be very convenient, allowing me to open to the required page and work on the computer without losing the page. I have been using this book (among others), and its previous edition, to train green belts for five years now. I have not yet found a book that explains key concepts in such plain language that almost all students grasp the lessons the first time. The Minitab exercises are well explained, and when I ask students to rate the book at the end of the training they have all said I should continue to use it in future sessions. How's that for Voice of the Customer? I does not cover everything I teach (e.g. Multi-Vari charts) but what it does cover, it covers in an accessible and concise manner. Thanks, Quentin.

I have led multiple Lean Six Sigma deployments in various companies and trained / mentored probably 80 - 100 Black Belts in my career. This book is by far the most valuable book for new black belts (I find myself referring back to it from time to time myself!). Its value is that it shortly and concisely communicates the Lean Six Sigma methodology and teaches how to execute within Minitab and thoroughly interpret Minitab output. There simply is not a better, single reference guide available

Good book, handy reference guide that has all the basics. Spiral-binding helps to keep specific pages at the ready for easy reference. Delivery went fine as usual.

I bought this guide as I was getting bogged down with the huge text book that was issued with the Black Belt course I'm following. It has good summary flowcharts, graphs and checklists to follow depending on the type of project or data you have and well-written "1-liners" to descibe each topic. I doubt I'll ever refer to my original text book again, but I'll keep this guide to hand as the graphics and clarity it brings are excellent.

Bought for my black belt certification. Very useful information. This book is more than just Minitab, it explains a lot of lean/six sigma principles very clearly.
