Fantastic little pump that is more powerful than you'd guess for its size
While the pump is not 'dead silent' in my application (as some reviewers say), it awfully quiet, and is a great little pump. I have mine in a 40g Sterilite tub I use as a sump on a 60g acrylic freshwater tank. The pump's hose runs out the tub and returns to the tank via a 45-degree PVC elbow that slips tightly into one of the 3/4" holes drilled into the top of the tank. I mention that because the PVC might be conducting some sound that would be absent if it were a soft hose at the return vs a PVC fitting. But if I turn all other equipment off, and just have the Sicce running, and press my ear against the tank (to hear what the fish hear), I get a low hum. However it's so quiet the bubbling of the return at the surface is equally loud and so it's not an annoying hum like previous pumps I've owned. (Just standing at the sump I can also hear a very low hum, but it's extremely quiet, especially for such a powerful little pump.) Pros: the pump is very small, does not generate heat, and has an efficient motor. In my case the head is about 4' but the distance to the return (horizontally) is another 5'. I have a 1.5" bulkhead (drilled tank), draining down 1.5" PVC into the tub and the pump keeps up perfectly with the overflow. A stronger pump would have needed to be dialed back. I couldn't have picked a better one for this application. Surface sits about 5/8ths inch from top of tank. I've used Dolphin pumps in the past which lasted some 17 years in constant operation, but when the last one died, I found this Sicce as I wanted a quieter pump. It has them beat for sure. I'd buy it again in a second. In fact I'd never buy any other kind of pump. It's been in operation now about a year and I can't remember now, but I think it's also self-cleaning. IAC I have never opened it, and it's working as effortless and perfectly as the day I got it. The Dolphin had a foam prefilter that needed cleaning every 6mo or so, even though it was in a very clean sump. If you need a great pump, this is the one. I've been keeping fish for 27 years and Sicce will be my go-to pump from now on, assuming it stands the test of time.

Quiet and the perfect flow level for our four foot tall fountain.
We recently bought an indoor fountain and almost returned it because the pump drowned out the noise of the water feature. I am so glad I did a bit of looking and found this pump. We can barely hear the pump at all.

Quiet.
As described, it’s powerful and quiet. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a 1/2 inch connector, it’s comes with a 3/4. I’ll live. Not taking away a star because I didn’t read, and am mildly inconvenienced. Great product!

Quiet, Versatile Pump with Some Wear & Tear Risks
I picked up the Syncra Silent 0.5 to replace an aging return pump in my freshwater tank, and for the most part, it’s been a solid upgrade. The “silent” branding holds up—when new, it’s very quiet and unobtrusive. The 185 GPH rate seems adequate for small setups, fountains, or other utility tasks. What works well: • The magnet/impeller design is smooth, giving it quieter operation than many pumps in its price range. • It’s compact and easy to hide in a sump or behind decor. • Works across various applications (freshwater/salt, fountains, etc.) as marketed. Things I’ve noticed / potential drawbacks: • Over time, some users report the pump becoming louder, possibly due to wear on the shaft/impeller. • In darker or tight installations, a slight ticking or vibration noise can emerge. One user noted a “slight ticking noise” after install. • Its head (vertical lift) is relatively low compared to larger pumps—so it may struggle with higher elevation returns. Some performance tests show the 0.5 model’s output is below ideal under head pressure. Summary: If you’re running a small-to-medium system or need a quiet, general-purpose pump (for fountains, small aquariums, or auxiliary setups), this Syncra 0.5 is a strong choice. Just don’t expect flawless long-term silence under heavy load or after months of use—maintenance (cleaning, inspecting the impeller shaft) will be important to prolong its performance.

Quiet as a church mouse
I have used a lot of small pumps for various projects over the years. I have an indoor fountain that needed a complete rebuild (25 old years with only minor repairs) and I always was a bit disappointed because the miniature pump I had been using (you know the one!) was loud enough to hear on the entire first floor of our 2 story home. I took a chance on this one because it advertised 'silent' not 'quiet' and it is made in Italy (I am Italian too). Well, the claim is absolutely true. It is possible to hear the pump if you are less than 12" away from it, otherwise it is truly SILENT. You will need to have bit of patience as others have noted as the pump needs a few hours to 'break in' to silent. Don't send it back until you've run it at least 3 hours. Hope this helps!!

Fail Product from a Great Company
I ordered this pump twice just to give the company a good chance, but both times the pump I received made super loud vibrations or even rattling sounds that nothing would fix or dampen. I'm able to know for sure the pumps were the issue because I ordered from a different brand and the pump they sent is silent (Landen). I was definitely expecting better from Sicce since it's a brand I generally trust and they are an awesome company, but these pumps were a total fail for me. They seemed as powerful as advertised, but the noise was an absolute deal breaker.

Effecient!
This Syncra Silent Pump lives up to its name. It’s virtually inaudible and seems to do an effective job at cycling water through my internal filters. High quality and high performance at an affordable price.

Personally I am very allergic to noise. My used aquarium came with a very noise pump. Had to replace it, and choose this one. Initially, it still made a bit of noise. I guess because there was still some air inside it, or vibrating a bit against the walls of my sump. It's nice and very silent now. Quality build too. Very happy with it.
