Singapore Math's Primary Math, U.S. Edition series features the Concrete> Pictorial> Abstract approach. Students begin by learning through concrete and pictorial means before moving into abstract thought and development, which encourages an active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving. Lessons are designed for a mix of teacher instruction and independent work, and students are encouraged to discuss ideas and explore additional problem-solving methods. Primary Math, Book 1A teaches students numbers 0-10, addition, subtraction, naming number positions, counting, common shapes, comparing and measuring length and weight. This set of textbooks and workbooks is designed specifically for U.S. students. Names, terms in examples, measurement, spellings, currency and other such elements have been changed to reflect American names and stylistic preferences. 88 pgs, non-consumable and non-reproducible. Paperback. Review: Solid mathematics foundation - My 6 year old did the kindergarten Singapore math so this was the logical next step. The text and teacher guides are nice this year with the workbook. You could start a child on this without the kindergarten background and take it slower. We are flying through this as he has a solid foundation from last year. I would recommend the text, workbook, and teacher guide as they are nicely laid out. We plan to continue with Singapore math. Review: Good - it is exactly what I wanted.

i may like the common core version better
i just purchased this after we finished the kindergarten level books. We used the Common Core book for kinder and I wonder if I shouldn't have stuck with them-- I feel like they may have been more challenging. This book is literally smaller (so each page has less square footage). I also feel like the kinder Common Core had more to do. You certainly could use the workbook with this one whereas I felt like the Kinder Common Core worked fine as a workbook and I only had to make up 1-2 practice pages. We'll see how it goes. Literally, we did the entire first unit in one sitting.. . it was too easy.
