100 Watts. You need to add 20% headroom. A 100 (watts solar panel) divided by 12 (battery voltage) equals 8.33 multiplied by 1.20 (20%) equals 10 (solar charge controller amperage)

Do I need to run my load through the controller, or can it go directly to battery? What are the advantages of running through the controller?

I'm afraid several have misunderstood the question. Without a low-voltage disconnect, the load connections on the controller are provided merely for connection convenience. It should be the same as connecting your load directly to the battery. There is no low-voltage protection either way. Unless you purchase the unit that contains the LVD
