Excellent choice for a spicy dish. A bit of flavor and a little bit of heat…less than a Calabrian chili and hotter than black pepper.

I learned about this spice from Alton Brown and it is officially a staple in my kitchen. The deep smokey but slightly spicy flavor is perfect for so many dishes. We put it in a lot of different things. I've tossed some on fingerling potatoes for roasting, added to my chili, and even put some in a caramel sauce for ice cream. It is a large enough package to last me a while, but not so big that it hangs around too long.

Melt a tablespoon (or three) of butter in a small pan. When foaming, add one to several pinches of this pepper, let it foam a bit and then take it off the heat. Drizzle on eggs, savory french toast, yogurt, etc etc. Great stuff, lovely flavor, not too spicy if you're worried about that kind of thing.

This is an awesome spice, sure to power-up whatever you put it on. More than just hot, with a hint of exotic flavor. The bag? Tough to reseal with a danger of spillage. I purchased a glass spice jar and, problem solved!

I love having a pepper that is plenty spicy but with a good flavor, instead of being as one-dimensional as some hot varieties can be. I use this for finishing steamed vegetables such as cauliflower or Brussels sprouts, tossed in butter and/or oil and then put into a gratin pan for finishing. The right amount of salt and then a good sprinkling of this, with or without some cheese, and then run through oven or broiler, makes a very tasty side or even main dish.

I have been buying from another supplier for twenty years. Both are fruity and smokey with a mild kick but I am used to a deep maroon color with larger drier flakes and this spice is orange with small moist flakes. Their taste is also different but both are very good. So, I recommend this supplier even though I am not sure which one I will buy next. Not much help, am I?

I would reccommend this to anyone who likes to experiment with different spices and flavors. I am still experimenting with it and it is a subtle flavoring. If you do not like hot or spicy this might do the trick for you.
