where is the on off button for the chime

You have to install an other battery to have the chime. To turn the chime off remove that battery.

Go clock today and found a 1/2" X 2 1/2" brass plate with self adhesive tape on one side with the instructions, what is it for?

That is an optional engraving plate that you can have engraved and apply to the clock if you so choose. The plate is included free with this clock.

How is this item shipped ? Is the pendulum removable ?

The pendulum is removable. It is not assembled when shipped.

how do you set the time? there is no knob or wheel on the motor in the base of the clock - nor on the back of the clock which has a metal cover.

You have to take the metal cover off (which removes quite easily) to set to time then pop the cover back on (also quite easily to do). There is a red button on the bottom of the clock to use to match the chimes with the hour. All of this is very easy to do.
