Backpack Explorer: On the Nature Trail

Great addition for our preschool co-op. The kids love exploring nature trails. This book is easy to use and helps explain what they found on the trails. Great graphics.

If you've got little nature explorers like I do, then you should have this book! We reference it all the time and take it on walks and hikes. The activities are appropriate for 4-8 year olds. My grandsons love the stickers and games presented in this book and we've made many of the craft projects to the delight of all! Very informative in a fun and engaging way!

Love this book! Would recommend for ages 4+ although I purchased for my two year old and she is still interested in the pictures! Has an adorable mini magnifying glass included,"badge" stickers for each of the subjects and a trail map you can make yourself. I love that there is a mix of information and simple nature based activities. Only downfall is that the pages are made of regular, thin paper which may not hold up well if taken outside. Would make the perfect gift for any little adventurer!

This book is fun, engaging and presented in an extremely accessible way with lots of nice photos interspersed with illustrations. There is lots of information is packed into this book, but it is expertly condensed for younger kids. A magnifying glass (flimsy) is included and then throughout the book highlights things to explore with it. One thing to consider though is that some of the plants and animals in this book are likely focused for certain regions in the US as the publisher is based in North Adams, MA (for example the book The Hike by Alison is great, but is focused on the NW region). This totally works for us and I highly recommend it. I purchased this for my kids (5yo) and a friend (6yo), but itś so fantastic and it is selling at a great price (50% off) that I will likely purchase it for other friends as well. --- Contents --- Pages with photos and a corresponding sticker to be marked when identifying or spotting the following various things: leaves, birds, insects, squirrels (other small mammals), worms (and other creatures in the soil), toads (other amphibians), mushrooms, seeds, flowers, butterflies, spiders, and tracks Additional information included are: types of trees (deciduous vs evergreen), types of clouds (3 most common), illustration of how a plant grows from a seed to flower, and herbivores vs omnivores (presented in an engaging ¨game" of following colored paths intertwined with each other to see which animals eat what - my kids had lots of fun with this one) Creative and Movement Activities : Music on the Trail, Animal Copycat movement game, Nature Critters (making art critters out of found natural objects), Animal Hide & Seek (predator-prey game), Nature Paintbrushes, Nature Mandalas, Nature Impressions (using air-drying clay to make memory keepsakes), Activities to encourage kids to use all their senses: Listen Up! - close your eyes and list of things to listen for with space to add your own things Touch it! - examples of textures to find and feel, i.e. rough, wet, soft, etc Smell it! - list of thing to smell with space to add your own things The end of the book includes a special grid paper foldout to make your own trail map as well as stickers to use. (Love this!) ------------------ You can tell lots of care and thought was put into putting this book together and is packed full of information and activities to engage young children (and their adults).

It’s a great book, but the corner came all smashed which damaged all the pages as well. I swear, every book I get from Amazon is damaged. I have to return the original one I receive every single time. The new one they replace it with is always perfectly fine tho… Just sick of this return game with books. Book Contents Include Things Like… Trees, Leaves, Seeds, Amphibians, Insects, Small Mammals, Clouds, Tracks, Spiders, Flowers, Butterflies, etc.

This book will definitely jvteresf any age 4 to seniors! Colorful. Not tedious. Exciting there is no child who would not be engaged. Small group kids in ones. Area. Walk outside if s hook to playground. Walk anywhere. Looks handsome. I’m a teacher and grandparent. Get the book if you know any kids!!!

If your child has the slightest interest in the outdoors, order this book. My son has enjoyed this book over & over again. It’s full of useful information that’s relatable to a kid stepping out there front door or out on the hiking trail. We love this book and the simple activities so much that we went ahead and ordered the accompanying book, “BIRDS” as well as “BEACHES” and they’re both just as wonderful. These books have lead to profound questions, a better understanding of the nature surrounding us, and creative thinking.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew. But before wrapping it and placing it under the tree, I read it from cover to cover and debated buying another for myself! This little treasure will surely awaken your inner child!! He is going to absolutely love it!!! It comes with a little magnifying glass, perfect for little fingers :) and so many stickers to enjoy and place throughout each page along the journey! Love love!

Bought these for my great nieces and nephews as a gift. They love, love them! Great books for little explorers.

We love this book - it really helped my sons appreciate going on an outdoor walk, as we explored and had competitions to find the different things in the book.

Great little nature learning book

We saw these at a playgroup and I went home and bought some when we got home. They had beautiful pictures (which my 2 year old loved) and the details for the older kids (and time for her to grow into the book). I have bought them for friends as well.
