Will this equipment detect electricity pylons for say up to 1 mile ? (i want to know before I purchase a new house)

It really depends on the strength of the electromagnetic field being generated. An electromagnetic field decreases exponentially over distance, as a result I would suggest that a pylon carrying 400KV a mile away would be undetectable over the earths natural magnet field. This device is capable of detecting emissions from TV's, computers and other electrical systems within the home. So in short the answer is no. If the pylon your concerned about is about a mile away I'm sure it would have no detrimental affect whatsoever.

Can this device function as a Geiger counter in the event of a nuclear incident please?

No, definitely not. It measures electromagnetic radiation up to 10GHz, not nuclear radiation. It is mainly useful for detecting dangerous levels of non-ionising radiation from mobile phones, smart devices in general and. Microwave cookers etc. They do a Geiger counter version that does detect nuclear radiation. It detects beta and gamma radiation that would be emitted by a nuclear explosion but not alpha particles resulting from breathing in radioactive dust. However, beta and gamma radiation detection is generally the best indication of a nuclear event.
