I have recently began practicing yoga for the flexibility and low impact it affords. So, this is the first yoga mat that I have ever purchased. Now, let me go over the most notable positive aspects of the mat.First, I selected this particular mat because it was long, 72 inches long, which allows me to fully lay within the mat's boundary. I can also do my lunges and any other extensions parallel onto the mat and not step off and potentially slip. This leads to another noticeable point, which is that the mat's surface has a nice textured finish which yields good hand and foot grip. Even with sweaty hands and feet, the mat affords me the grip to have a proper workout. Additionally, the mat's underside is textured to grab onto the carpet, in my case, without moving from position. It doesn't slide or raise up as i do lunges, for example, it stays in place from start to finish of a session. Furthermore, the mat is quite strong and has held up well given my daily use of it. Granted, i have only had the mat for about two months, but i don't notice any signs that its going to fall apart anytime soon. For those that are concerned if it has a noticeable odor, I can say that I don't notice any smell during my workouts.Now, let me go over the minor dislikes of the mat. The only minor grievance that i have with the mat is narrow, only 24 inches wide. Of course, this is only noticeable when i lay on it and extend perpendicular to it's length. So, if you are concerned with sweaty arms touching the floor then you may want a wider mat. This doesn't ruin my yoga workout, but it may be a concern for others. This is the only little, minor, tiny dislike i have, but it doesn't make me dislike my yoga mat because it positives far outweigh its negatives.I hope this helps. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT! It came with its own mesh bag. There was NO rubbery smell at all. To my delight, the mat was thick [I like it thick as it helps my balance better and gentle on my bum.] I've had this yoga mat for almost three months now, I wipe it down with the yoga studio's spray to remove sweat & dirt.So far, it hasn't frayed and still supports me well. I totally LOVE this yoga mat. It is also lightweight.DISLIKED:The mesh thing that carries the mat. It lasted only 1 month. The thing that pulls it closed came apart within 3 weeks. After about two months, the mesh [so that the mat can breath] is torn and ripped. I still use it because it does have a carry on feature. This is why I gave it 4 stars. I will definitely need a yoga mat carry on soon.BUT, truly, - this yoga mat is PERFECT. It feels plush, no smell. I do yoga 4 to 5x a week - it's been over 90 days. So far so good. A mat of some type is required. For years I used a soft mat that would slip and slide, and began searching for something more stable.The Athoon yoga mat fills the bill. It provides the protection/comfort required for stretching, and while performing activities such as planks, the mat holds its position, and shape(it does not deform/stretch during the plank), so I can concentrate on breathing and the position I am holding rather than adjusting position do to a slipping/stretching mat.It’s a nice mat, that works well for me, and though not a person who really practices yoga, I would suggest anyone who requires a mat for their health and fitness regimen give the Athoon a look.***Keep your German Shepherd or like size dog off the mat as their nails will rip little chunks out.
