if you want to use 2 BD/DVD writer at same time, i recommend to buy a BD/DVD replicator tower.

yes, you should use the AC adpater (12V 3A) to rus this Enclosure Case, the usb power doesn't have enough power to run it. Regards

Does this unit have a built-in fan for cooling?

The version of this unit that I purchased did not have a fan installed, but there is space for a fan, and vent slits in the case, plus a connector on the board that you can plug a fan into. I purchased a 40 x 40 x 10mm 4010 12V 0.10A Brushless DC Cooling Fan 2pin AV-F4010MB which worked perfectly - I used pieces of cardboard to hold the fan in place. The case works OK but I had difficulties with the drive having trouble recognizing some blu-ray discs for some reason. Even without a fan, the Mercury or Vantec enclosures are better choices IMO.
