If you need a movie that will leave you smiling from ear to ear, The Holiday is it. This is the kind of film that just wraps around you like a warm blanket — it's charming, funny, romantic, and genuinely uplifting in a way that so few movies manage to pull off. I've watched it multiple times and it never gets old.The cast is absolutely perfect. Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are both wonderfully relatable, and their chemistry with Jude Law and Jack Black respectively gives the film two equally satisfying love stories to root for. Jack Black in particular is a revelation here — funny and surprisingly sweet. And the scenes with Eli Wallach as the lovable old Hollywood screenwriter are worth the price of admission alone.What makes this such a great feel-good movie is that it never tries too hard. It's warm, genuine, and full of little moments that just make you happy to be watching. Whether it's a cozy girls' night in, a date night, or a rainy afternoon on the couch, this is the movie you reach for when you need a mood boost. An absolute classic — 10/10 would recommend to anyone who needs a reminder that life can be pretty wonderful.

The sweetness of this movie is what I love but the comedy is good as well. Kate Winslet’s performance is great, I get slightly annoyed at Cameron Dias’ whining and her unsuccessful attempts to make herself cry but my enjoyment of her mid 2000’s wardrobe and her cuteness makes up for it. I’m always like, look how many coats and boots she packed for this trip to England! How did she fit it all?! I fall in love with Jude Law every time. The way he looks at Cameron makes me melt, and Jack Black always cracks me up. The relationship between Kate and the old man next door is the sweetest thing ever. And the little girls with English accents, cutest thing ever! The movie is truly heartwarming. Though there are big red flags for me in both romances, I am willing to suspend disbelief that these romances aren’t just going to fall apart before Valentine’s Day. The scenery is great in both LA and England. Great vibes! Also fun that Hanukkah gets a shout out too!

This is one of my favorite holiday love drama movies and it's so funny too.

I don't like chick flicks, so when this was in theaters I avoided it like the plague, but one day I caught a bit of it on cable and found it fun- light, silly, warm and wonderful. In short, a perfect holiday movie.In terms of a plot, there's not much there- two women find themselves flailing during the holidays and swap homes in hope of a bit of a change of scene and a break from the crazy. Jack Black is surprisingly honest and likable as Miles the composer. Kate Winslet is, in my opinion, a truly versatile actress who brings a light touch to her role as Iris- an Everygal with guy issues- who Winslet makes so charming and appealing you really wish you knew her in real life. Better yet, when she finally womans up you're rooting for her rather than rolling your eyes and saying "FINALLY!" Cameron Diaz is fun as always- once again proving that her comedic instincts are spot on. I think she worked well with Jude Law, who is just fantastic as Graham- sweet, sensitive and beguiling, and if you can resist those eyes you've got to be made of stone.There are a few bits that are a little too reminiscent of the talky 70's movies in which characters angst and moan about relationships and drek (there's a scene with Law and Diaz talking about their relationship in bed after sex that made me want to poke my eye out with a fork) but overall it's great fun. I plan on keeping it packed away with my Christmas stuff and bringing it out next Dec. 1 when I'm in need of a little rom com fun and Christmas cheer.

My movie for Christmas 2020. Down in a Deep Internet Rabbit hole, I happened across an interview that Stephen Colbert had with Kate Winslet. Colbert mention this film as a great Holiday movie even though it had almost nothing to do with Christmas. I scheduled it up for viewing on Christmas day.I got two romantic comedies tales for the price of one ($2.99 on Amazon Prime). Aside from immediately creating in my mind the question, whatever happened to Carmen Diaz, one of our damsels in distress, I got sucked into the creativity of the writers when they contrived a house swap between Diaz and her equally lovestruck counterpart in Britian, Kate Winslet. We find Diaz's Character Amanda, who owns a company that develops film trailers, living in the proverbial lap of luxury with her home on Sunset Boulevard and her money driven life style, is in a terrible long term relationship with her boyfriend, Ethan, who is played by Edward Burns. I now there are going ot be women out there that are going to think how can any relationship with Edward Burns be bad, but trust me he sells it.Amanda turns to the internet to find a place where she can just get away. She discovers a charming cottage in England and sends an inquiry. Iris is home brooding over her love interests announcement of his engagement to one of her co-workers. Iris is a reporter for a newspaper and gets the Christmas assignment to write about the couples wedding announcement. She in turn wants to get away.Iris messages Amanda that the cottage is only available by house swap. Amanda agrees they both travel to the others home and the adventures begin.Notable in this film are the many cameo appearances besides Edward Burns, the touching sub plot built around character played by Eli Wallach and what may have been a breakout role by Jack Black. Fair warning. If your going to tell two stories, you need twice the time. In this case, the running time is two hour and fifteen minutes. Oh yeah, there will be cute kids and dogs.
