It is possible that the brightest unit was the most effective and also possible that the ones tested ineffective would do much better if they did not have a competing unit right net to them.In addition once the insect population is eradicated then the subsequent units are obviously not going to do as well.A more controlled test would require testing them one at a time at the same spot and releasing a controlled number of flying insects in the room...then measuring the percentage caught in say a weak or two. It's a good concept though. The fan would be strong enough if the bugs were attracted to it. The best thing is, it's quiet (not noisy at all).UPDATE: I am increasing my Stars to 4 because 1) The Customer Service is excellent and 2) I realized that I really wasn't using it for mosquitoes but was instead trying to get the fruit flies/gnats removed and this unit is actually designed for trapping mosquitoes. I think the blue light that lights up would indeed attract mosquitoes to it and then the fan would strong enough to pull them in. You do get what you pay for so yes, it does feel cheaply made. When I plugged it into a 2.1A USB socket, the fan really isn't that impressive. Just by putting my hands around the opening along the sides, the air being pushed out doesn't have much force to it. The LED lights aren't as bright as I thought they would be so if you're using this in a lit room, it's very ineffective. I bought this to be used in a remote room on property that is lit at night and has many flying insects that enter due to the door constantly opening and closing. It has been about a month and there are only three flying insects caught inside and most everything else is still up on the ceilings or dead by me. Also three weeks in, one of the LED lights died already.
