See image - NE4494 had a fixed hard-wired cable coming from the chassis with 4 wires to hook up to my existing pool outlet (that had 3-wires). There are not any instructions to deal with this. Also, the NE4494 did not have 1.5" pipe fittings (as also noted in other comments/questions), so because of the electrical and plumbing issues, I opted to call a pool professional to install this.Day 3: My professional pool installer arrived and advised that since there weren't any instructions for the electrical connection, that he would need to defer to an electrician. However, since the pump had 2" piping, he configured PVC adapters to 1.5" system (that I had to pay for) and prepped it for the visit from the electrician. SERVICE CHARGE $160.00Day 6: Electrician arrives to discover that there are no instructions provided for the NE4494 and there is nothing online. The problem is that theoretically, he could use the 4-wires to hook up to a toggle that would switch between high and low speed, but then there would be no way to turn the pump off and on. (NOTE, there is not a manual switch on the pump to switch between high/low speed as specified on the Amazon web page). SERVICE CHARGE $165.00 (Now total $325.00)Since the electrician was already here and my pool water was green, we decided to at least wire the pool for 1.5-HP until Blue Wave customer support could advise how to properly setup so that we could switch between high/low speed. At this point we discovered that the motor was defective and would just make a humming sound and wouldn’t fully engage. The same thing happened when he configured just the .45-HP. So, I needed to return the pump anyway.Blue Wave Customer Support does not have any technical knowledge about these pumps and they need to consult with the manufacturer who doesn’t know anything about pools. The email response that I received from Blue Wave advised that this pump can be configured at either ONLY 1.5 or .45 HP … and that once wired for either of those speeds, then you can’t change it to the other speed (again, there is no toggle switch on the motor). So why would anybody buy a 2-speed pump to only use one of the speeds?So I am out $325 in service charges, and over a week to buy and receive a new Pentair pump. And my pool water got a lot greener while I waited. I lost 2-weeks of pool time right in the middle of July. Problem is I have received 3 defective pumps since the beginning of this purchase over the past 3 weeks.
