Does this transition 20mm o/d old galvanised steel pipe to modern copper or plastic?

I would imagine so, it's within the range of sizes, as you tighten the fitting it squeezes the o ring onto the pipe, it doesn't have teeth like a standard push fit which can slip on tough materials. Think the water companies use these to get over all sorts of connection issues.

I’m not sure if you can use the phillmac fitting with lead but If your joining from lead to copper you can by a lead lock fitting they come in a variety of sizes and are cheaper

Worked like a charm

Fixed a problem with old polypipe

A 1960's property with approx 17.5 mm black polypipe as mains water in . Nice secure grip . Reassuring. I would use this option again it has been in place in a moving environment and has been rock solid under mains pressure for a week now .
