Catalyst Game Labs Battletech: Beginner Box

This beginner box set is in my opinion exactly what Battletech needed. For a very reasonable (frankly impulse-buy territory in the world of tabletop gaming) you get everything you need to drop into the world of savage Battletech tabletop wargaming the day of purchase. Included are even two beautifully sculpted and fully-assembled miniature battlemech models for use in the game as well as highly detailed cardboard stand-ups for reinforcements should you wish to add them to your games. You get a very nicely drawn, highly detailed map sheet to play on as well. As far as the other paperwork in the box goes, everything is well presented and all of the basic rules are covered to get you into the game pretty much during the same hour you crack open the box if you wish.It’s refreshing to see new Battletech products hitting the market. It’s such a great game with a ruleset that scales well from fairly straightforward mech combat all the way up to division level campaign operations with infantry, battle tanks, armored fighting vehicles, aircraft, artillery bombardments, naval assets, etc if you want (other books and products required for the latter items). It even plugs into the battletech rpg rather nicely if you’re more of a D&D kind of person. (Again, other books necessary for that as it’s a whole ‘nother game.) The point is, Battletech is such a robust ruleset and universe that you can go as big or as small as you want and still have fun with it.But on its own, this box set is a great value. You get everything you need to play a basic game of battletech so you can either learn the game yourself, teach a friend, toss it in a backpack and take it to you local gaming club to demo a game for others, etc. It’s a great tool to learn and teach the game and at this price it’s hard to complain.A note on the “hobby aspect”: With this particular kit you have nothing to really assemble, no glue or anything required (although you may want to paint these highly detailed figures at some point). You just take everything out of the box, punch out some cardboard, untold the maps, and tear each other apart on the battlefield.If you’re an old battletech vet or someone interested in seeing what future battlemech warfare is all about, this is a great pick up for your gaming collection.Welcome to the 31st century, lads, and prepare for war.

My 13 year old son saved his allowance to buy this game and he is obsessed.

I have been a Battletech fan for years. This was a nice update for beginners and the figure look amazing.

I got this at my local LGS, and was really excited. Huge fan of the video games, and board game back in the 90's. Really hoping to find more on the board games and more of the new plastic sculpts on the mini's.
