An outstanding and currently the only comprehensive handbook for the coffee-professional. 40 authors from the leading coffee-growing countries present the most recent technologies applied to coffee husbandry. The book features 900 carefully selected illustrations, 300 of these in full color, which substantiate the written text. The handbook provides basic guidelines and recommendations which are applicable everywhere rather than referring to any specific country. Added to this, the reader will find numerous data tables and an overview of relevant information sources. Review: The Coffee Bible - This book is a blessing! It is exactly what I was hoping to find since I knew very little about coffee and wanted to learn a lot about all aspects of the industry. I purchased the paperback version because is much less expensive than the hardcover and have no problems with it. It covers all subjects starting from a general view down to every detail making the book an absolute necessity for the beginner as well as the most experienced person. The book is very well written and easy to understand even in the most technical sections. Pictures, figures, graphs, drawings are abundant throughout the book and are also very informative. The author has an extensive experience in this field and it shows in each and every chapter. Big pluses are the explanations of problems, causes, solutions, alternatives, and future outlook. Because this is a magnificent book that can be used as a reference, I would have liked to see larger pictures. Review: Authoritative from Farm to Cup - I'm a grower, exporter, seller and roaster of coffee from Jinotega, Nicaragua. When I started my farm, my goal was to own the entire supply chain from seed to cup. It was very difficult as I began this journey 4 years ago found it difficult as no one understand the entire scope of seed to cup as most people understand only a narrow segment of each aspect of the industry, such as farming, cupping, retailing, etc. This book encompasses the entire seed to farming, to processing, export, to cup and to eventually retail. It discusses aspects of ecology, sustainability, and new coffee technology. It covers the various processes of coffee horticulture and milling in different parts of the world. I was able to bring ideas from Africa to my farm in Central America. The locals initially were resistant, but seeing it in action quickly changed minds. Through this book I was able to cut my energy cost to a minimum, and also reduce my water usage to only 20 gallons a day for wet miling coffee. I only use 8 workers for a 30 hectare farm. Fertilizer costs also decreased by judicious use and understanding of nutritional needs of the coffee trees. We were able to get premium prices for our coffee as the quality drastically improved. The cup also is excellent with an average score of 80. Love to see it in a kindle. This book is heavy and stained with coffee from the various trips to Central America.

Good reference for coffee farmers
I'm a small time coffee farmer in Kona, Hawaii, USA and have enjoyed reading this book. It's a good reference for some of the proper terms of growing and production of coffee. With it being a worldwide book it is interesting reading up on some of the other techniques used elsewhere and other processes which I can consider doing here. As a farmer it's easy to just do what I've always done but nice to be able to learn from other peoples efforts.

Essential to any coffee library
No other coffee book has as much breadth as this one. Moreover, the information is current and most of the chapters are written by respected coffee scientists. I use this coffee book more than any other on my shelf! Even though the book was designed as a practical guide for coffee growers, the average individual interested in coffee will likely find many chapters useful and interesting. Yes, it is expensive but it is worth it!

THE reference book for serious coffee industry participants
As the title suggests, Wintgens has aggregated a large part of everything worth knowing in coffee growing, processing and production. Comprehensive and still current today, this book is a must have for any coffee industry participant involved in farming, milling, exporting, importing or roasting. It is even useful to cafe owners and baristas - especially if you are in the specialty coffee segment of the industry. It may be a relatively expensive book compared to a paperback novel, but if you're serious about coffee then it's an investment that you won't regret.

Technical But That's What It Is...
The book is tough in that it's full of botany and the technical stuff of growing coffee. It just digs in deep. It's over my head in that respect, but that was not a problem with the book - it was clear that this is what was in it when I bought it. It's the book it says it is... but don't expect it to be a walk in the park unless you are an experienced grower etc. I have to weather the technical level it's written in to get what I need from it. It's got lots of pictures, lots of data, so the journey is mapped well.
