Will it stand upright on its own?** A: Yes flat at the back and it does stand upright as my son uses it for school. I have been using it as my daily bag and it is water resistent. The balancing is good as well with the strap around the chest. Some issue that I have with it is the zipper where by design the cover of the zipper tends to get stuck in the zip, thus the 4 star.
