The molds are rubber. It's more difficult to fill than I imagined it would be. I get water between the forms and water on top. If I dump off the water on top, water comes out of the ball forms. I try to plug the holes with my fingers but it's tricky. I bought 60cc syringes and thought I could put water directly into the ball forms without getting it elsewhere, but water still gets between the molds. You can, however, either crack off excess ice or run the balls under water to do this. Note: if you want the ice to be totally clear you have to freeze them at a very slow rate. This can be accomplished by placing the ice ball maker mold in a small cooler that you then place in the freezer.
