One of the few promotional books I enjoyed reading
This book is chock full of interesting anecdotes and techniques. Some are very unique scenarios to New York and will not help you at all in small town, USA. It is still very interesting to see how other places do things. I think it's best read outside of promotion as just a student of the fire service.

Great Read. Lots of Scenarios I could relate to. I've read it multiple times, after the first few times you can skip all the OTJ experience stories and get to the point. 2nd edition I've bought. Study guide is a great compliment, especially for promotional exams.

Not a good study guide
This study guide has a majority of questions relating to “choose the answer that is incorrect “Why word questions like that. We focus so much time on multiple choice questions and reading wrong answers. Questions that ask for the best answer build muscle memory and repetitively listening to the audio book then completing a test asking for the “best” answer builds in your brain. Similar to flash cards. Do we read flash cards with the incorrect “practice” no we shouldn’t.I don’t wanna reread what’s wrong repeatedly, I wanna read what is correct or “ the best practice”.The text book is good but I’m regretting buying the study guide.Questions are terrible in this guide.
