Does the player remember where you are and start again from the same place after being shut down?

Yes it does start again from the same place. The only other thing I found with it is that if your battery runs out while listening to it,it will start again from the first song you listened to when you put it on rather than the one it was playing when the battery ran out.

Capacity for how many songs?

Depends on how big the song files are. If 8gb isn't enough, you could always get a bigger micro sd. I have 559 songs currently on my mp3.

I listen to one audio book chapter to distract from my tinnitus when trying to go to sleep, so does this player have a "track at once" function?

No it doesn't. The player usually plays one track after another. It depends on how your chapters are set up. If it's for example track 1 chapter 1 track 2 chapter 2 then it'll be fine. But don't take my word on it.

Can i copy music i have on my pc to this device and then plug in to the usb port i have on my cd player to play the musc

Yes. You simply need to drag the mp3 file from your folders into the intenso folder.
