This means that if the input plug you wish to use does not have a locking screw thread, then this microphone WON'T work. The screw will prevent the plug from complete connection on a mic/input jack, where a screw thread is not present. It is NOT meant to work with camera's and cellphones, at least without using some kind of adaptor.The screw ring is designed to lock the lavalier microphone connection to the transmitter - so the talent cannot inadvertently disconnect the microphone.If you wish to use this with a XLR input, you will need something like the Rode VXLR+ connector to make the connection.For interviews and documentary use, this microphone is perfect for the job.
