Great lock to replace an antique, but broken lock.
This Mortise Lock updated our antiquated rear-door that had an incredibly old, and barely functional doorknob that didn't latch or lock. Setup was very easy, even though it required me to chisel away at the door a bit (as anticipated, I knew the size wouldn't match up exactly), so encourage anyone buying to measure first if they don't want to work on the door/ jamb at all. It looks sleek and works exactly as expected!

Did the job
I purchased three silver and a few brushed bronze sets. I have an old house so I needed them; don’t make doors in the same size anymore and these lock/handle sets are not found as readily as your typical handles. The installation was simpler for these than some we’ve tried, but most locks like this can be a difficult install. The look is amazing! Both versions look so nice on the doors. And the best part, they work. Had these a year or two now and most still work perfectly. But two stick now, although correctable w adjustments. I am lucky to have two entries in the room where one of the stickers are…so I can walk around but I imagine it’d be scary if I didn’t have a second opening to get out. This has more to due with the type of handle set versus the product itself. These are a must for me, but they work reasonably well and look absolutely fabulous. I would recommend

Great product! Definitely Recommend.
Exactly what I ordered. Much cheaper price that in store and more selections on here. While renovating a home I wanted to keep the older cottage charm so I ordered these to replace the old rusted ones. This was perfect. Fit perfectly in the same place as the old one and the keys worked propery as well. On left/right door, I did end up having to change the direction of the lock but it was an easy fix. There was no directions on how to do that but i easily figured it out.

These are very nice. Installed in 120-year-old house. Very little modificatiion to doors needed.
Was looking for replacement for an old house that I am remodeling. These work perfectly! I am halfway through installing 20+ of these units and have found them to be excellent. I have had to do cosmetic repairs on the doors because they are very old. The hardware fits very closely but requires some slight carpentry to get right. I could not be happier. They are not exceptionaly ornate but have an authentic vintage look and seem to be very good quality.

They need some new design work, but they do work
I updated over 20 doors with these in my house, as I have a house that’s over 100 years old and I didn’t want to replace all the doors. With some slight modifications, these all slid in to the previous mortise cut outs. The quality is fair, the entire mechanism is metal so that’s nice but I feel like they really lacking the actual handle part, they cheap out and made it really hollow so they feel cheap. Some more fill inside of the handle or even a thicker gauge of metal would make it feel a lot better. The biggest complaint I would probably have him why I’m giving it three stars instead of five is because the little screw that holds the handle on constantly comes undone. It doesn’t matter how tight you put it on in like a month you’ll have to re-tighten it. Every door in the house that’s commonly used. I basically need to go through every like two months or so and make sure they’re all tight if they’re not the handle will get so loose that when you turn it to open the door or eventually just twist and fall off.

18 locks working well
I ordered 18 of these in Oct 2016 for a renovation on our 1912 Craftsman, satin-nickel finish with locks. After reading some of the other reviews and being a bit concerned, we purchased one of these and showed it to a locksmith who does a lot of work in our old neighborhood before deciding to order the rest and do it ourselves, and he said they looked like a duplicate of an old Corbin mortise lock design. His bottom price for the lock alone was at least twice what these cost, and labor on top of that, so we decided to give these a shot. Quality - - The door plates ARE thinner than an original lock from the period. However they're not tin foil and once they were mounted on the door they were solid and I really could not tell they were any thinner than the originals. Just waaayyy shinier, of course! - Since other reviews mentioned issues with the lock mechanism getting stuck, I exercised the lock about 20 times and opened up each one to inspect before setting them in the door. I found 1 that would not work and discovered the lock sliding mechanism was not sitting correctly in the internal track. After setting it in the right position, I haven't had any issues since. The internals are pretty simple so it's not too intimidating to open up the lock. Installation - it's a mortise lock so yes it's way harder than a modern style to carve out the pocket for the lock. But if you've got a house this old then that's the correct style, and if you've got a lot to install there are mortise jigs you can buy to make life easier. We were also able to obtain a number of original doors from the period, and these locks were a direct fit for those that already had the mortise for the lock mechanism, which made installing a lot of them fairly easy. Other issues - I've had the set screw for the door handles loosen up a couple of times and need to be retightened. The bar the handle connects to is threaded so the handle loosened up but stayed on the bar just fine until I retightened the set screw. I also put a little Loctite on the set screw and no more problems after that. Overall I'm happy with these locks. Best part is the solid clunk sound the internal spring makes with the old solid core doors when you close them, you just don't get that with newer lock designs! Update Nov 3, 2022 - I have to lower my rating on these locks. About a year ago, one of these broke such that the latch would not retract. My kids had been fighting over the door so I figured maybe it was a fluke. But then a couple days ago the same thing happened randomly to another door. In both cases one of my kids was trapped in the room until I could get inside the room via a window and take the door off the hinges. The lock broke in the same place both times - see the circled tab in the picture. It is a tiny tab of metal that links the door knob to the door latch. But in both cases that tab fatigued and straightened out. This is a serious safety issue with the design causing someone to be trapped in the room. I believe it's just a matter of time that more of these will fatigue so I am now in the process of searching for a more reliable replacement design. PLEASE BEWARE!

Garbage and Dangerous
This handle and lock is absolute garbage. Had to glue the screw in 3 times as it kept coming loose and the door would get locked. Today our baby got locked in the bedroom as the bolt lock fell into the latch and could not unlock. I had to break the door down and smash the door frame out to save my baby in distress. Absolute safety hazard and this handle and lock should be taken off the market immediately. Thankfully my infant baby is ok. Now I have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a new door, handle, & doorframe installed.

Does not function as described
When utilising the instructions to reverse the handing of the door it doesn't work. After multiple tries to understand the limited information given I have discovered that reversing the handing results in a lock mechanism so poorly aligned internally as to render it non-functional

Four Stars
Works ok just gets lose around the knobs but that could be my door frame not being even.
