Dont let your kids take them out of the microwave! My wife has enjoyed their usefulness and appreciates their brIght colors and guests always compliment them.The worst characteristic is the fact that they get "fry your fingers", hot in the microwave. Two of the dishes actually broke from the radiant heat. Which is why I bought another set. We wanted to replace the few dishes that have been broken.The sets I ordered previously had soup bowls included, which were the main dishes we needed to replace. When I ordered this new set I "assumed" this was the same set. Unfortunately, it ain't! The backsplash is made up of different color tiles as I love color. These dishes match perfectly. Not only are they colorful, but they are heavy. The quality is great. They are hand painted so some differences appear between one and another. However that makes them even more interesting. Don't buy them if you are looking for lightweight dishes, but they are beautiful and even though it says they are microwave safe, they do get hot after about three minutes in the microwave. If you are looking for something lightweight, these dishes are not what you want ... they are heavy stoneware. They seem durable enough, but I've only had them 2 weeks. They've been through the dishwasher several times with no fading. The colors are the same as what's in fiestaware, so you can get those accessories to match (I've actually already done this).
