Excellent machine
So happy with this purchase. Using it now for several months. It makes great coffee and is easy to operate. Doesnt take long to heat up and lots of options for strength and cup size. You do need to purchase descaler and the machine will stop working when the descaling is due (so far about every 3 months). I got the descaler in Currys and it was a lot cheaper than online. One thing to note: It has the capability to take ground coffee but I found that its not really practical and its very hard to clean that area. I used the ground coffee option a few times but found that the steam generated by the coffee making process caused the fine grinds to stick to the inside of the machine and can cause mould over time. This doesnt happen with the coffee bean and grinder operation though. So I would recommend it for coffee beans only. We use filtered water for it to reduce hard water issues but you can also purchase an internal filter for it if required. It arrived well packaged and on time. The water tank size is great. Worth watching a few of the youtube videos on the operation and cleaning as I didnt think the instructions were great. Would definitely recommend though

So far, Magnifica is magnificent.
I've had this for roughly a few weeks now, the coffee is simply sensational. Medium or dark roast beans, either way produces fantastic results. I am typically a black coffee drinker so I didn't need any milk compartments etc, and I thought surely this would just mean more to clean anyway - the steam spout is there if and when I need it, however I haven't tested this yet. This is my first bean to cup coffee machine and I am blown away by how super convenient it is. The cleaning when you turn the machine ON and OFF is great. You might be filling the water tank up every couple of days, but so what? It's incredibly easy to do. The downside is that the manuals were awful to use - most of them were not in English so, as I had seen by other reviews, I referred to YouTube to watch some videos on how to first setup the unit, how to adjust temperature and coffee volume, and ever since I've had the best coffees I've ever tasted at home. The compartments are a breeze to remove and clean. I haven't yet done a 'deep' clean but if it isn't straight forward enough to do, I'll update this review to say how I got on. Other reviews here have said about what to look out for, or how to do it best, so I will follow that. An absolutely incredibly unit that, for the price, creates sensational coffee with the touch of a few buttons. Brilliant. Just make sure that you are using quality beans - treat yourself!

Excellent Machine
Having owned this machine for a little under a year, I feel eminently qualified to review it. In short, it is brilliant. I owned the previous model to this one for a good nine years without issue - if this one lasts as long, I will more than satisfied. It's amazing how much easier this one is to use compared with my older machine. It has push buttons to select the coffee required which can be programmed to deliver a certain amount into the cup - once this has been done, pressing the required button decants the same volume every time. It takes around three minutes from switch on to a perfectly brewed coffee. Another feature is the button select for coffee strength - I have this set at strength 2, whereas my daughter uses setting 1 (the wimp : -) ). Cleaning is also a doddle. Press the clean function, put the required amount of water and cleaning solution in the water hopper, and off you go. Highly recommended.

Great product for the price
Great product and not too complicated to set up initially, although the instructions are just pictures. Had to watch some 'how to' videos online (delonghi have created good ones on their website) to understand the milk steamer. You can't set the size of the drink, but it creates enough coffee for a typical mug, leaving space for milk if you have it.

Persistence and video tutorials needed and you will love this machine
Hated this at first. Couldn't get the right blend of beans and everything tasted horrid and bitter. Instructions that come with it are useless but thankfully comes with QR codes linking to online tutorials. Eventually i found the right grind and blend combination. Disappointing as mine didn't come with a filter (nor does it say anywhere that you need one) or any descaler. Apparently some models do. After less than 4wks use it is indicating it needs descaling which I am surpised about as I live in a low scale area of the UK again back to google...apparently you can set the limescale level but I'm yet to find that tutorial!!! Apart from a slow start I have grown to LOVE the coffee that this machine makes. It is loud when it grinds the beans but no louder than my own electric grinder. It needs refilling with water very frequently owing to how much water it uses at the start and end 'rinsing itself'. Tip - leave a cup under the spout to avoid having to empty the drip tray too frequently. Second tip - if using ground coffee don't put it in until you've switched the machine on otherwise it will dump it out of the system! Lost a lot of coffee until I figured that one out! Would I recommend- YES! PERSIST AND WATCH THE TUTORIALS AND YOU WILL LOVE IT TOO!!

Really nice coffee but completely meaningless instructions.
I don't normally write reviews but I really advise you to read this one, or waste six hours of your life trying to set the machine up, as we did. We got it working, eventually, but the control panel on this monster is a cacophony of chaotic irrationality and implausible illogicality, designed by an infant, or something, which makes a kind of sense once you work your way backwards from the end result, a cup of coffee, no less, but you have to get there first. Until then there's no need to waste time with the instructions. You'll have more luck blindfolded. Indeed don't expect the instructions to be any help at all. In fact they will send you up numerous blind alleyways. But beyond all that there was another issue which we stumbled upon by pure chance and if we hadn't we would have sent it back. Briefly we found something resembling a red plastic three pin UK type electrical plug set between the removable tray at the base and the body of the machine, a plug which you won't find unless you remove the tray, and which you won't find mentioned in the instructions either. The plug is clearly supposed to be there, but why? Up until that moment there was a red flashing warning light - we presumed - which we could not get to switch off. It kind of resembled an extra wide letter U filled with small dots in two horizontal rows. What could it mean? Out of beans? Out of water? Empty coffee grounds? Wrong voltage? Water pressure too high/low? Water still heating? Add limescale remover? Walk the dog? Answer the phone? Sending out a machine of this complexity with completely incompetent and misleading instructions for use shouldn't be allowed, and is something you don't expect of an established company in any field, or of Amazon. Only when we withdrew the tray did we find this bright red plug, for want of a better word, lurking in the bottom left corner, as per the photos. We didn't know what it was, but wondered why it was red. We pushed it, pulled it, and suddenly it came away. Was it supposed to or had we broken the machine? We set it to one side, replaced the tray, and wondered, if it was supposed to be removable, what would happen if we replaced the tray and... Hallelujah! The red warning (?) light went out, after six hours between two people, trying to get the thing to work. So be warned, flashing red light means remove red plastic plug. Why? Absolutely no idea, unless you want to disable the machine without telling anyone, for example if someone breaks in while you're at a wedding, or on holiday. Perhaps someone knows at Amazon, or deLonghi. The really appalling thing is that various lights flash, or give a semblance of life within the machine, even though it's never going to work, until you remove this plug. We rang Customer Experience. Completely useless. They said to send it back to Amazon. How many people have sent this machine back because of this red plug? Is it meant to be there? Is it supposed to be removed at the factory before dispatch? Buy this machine at your peril! Now we have a new problem, which is why whole beans are mixed up with the coffee grounds in the removable tray, and how to prevent it. We're still working on that but rather than send it back just yet, we're going to persevere. We've still got 28 days. We're going to need them,. Having said all that it makes really nice coffee, but you're going to need it, so be warned....

Makes great coffee.
Magnificent coffee machine. Beans in the top and coffee out the bottom. It grinds to your choice and to your strength as you can adjust the grind. Easy to empty as it tips the grounds into the tray at the bottom. You can use ground coffee too although I haven't. Instructions for this are in the booklet.

A great Upgrade
I am basing this review on a comparison with my previous machine, the Magnifica ESAM 4200.S Other reviewers have said this machine is noisy but it is so much quieter than its predecessor. The start up sounds are quieter, the grinding is quieter and the dispensing is quieter. The steamer still 'screams' occsaionally, but only occasionally rather than most times. It is much simpler, with coffee volumes pre-set, so you know you always get the same amount, instead of turning a dial. The steamer heats up a little quicker but a great improvement is that you can switch from steamer back to coffee instantly without having to wait several minutes. This means you can make each coffee individually rather than having to make all the espressos before steaming the milk if there are several people having coffee. The grounds tray is a better configuration and there is virtually no spillage compared to the ESAM 4200.S. I used to have to sweep grounds out of the base of the old machine - not any more. There was criticism, in other reviews, of the clarity of the instructions. I found them quite understandable when standing in front of the machine and following the set up instructions in sequence. For example, the steamer light flashing is explained and turning the steamer on and off resolves it. The 'little red plug' mentioned in one review as being absent from the instructions is, in fact, included and is the condenser outlet for the steamer. The manual just doesn't say that it is red!! Remembering to empty the drip tray and grounds container at the same time is no hardship as I did that anyway and I especially like the fact that the drip tray is black - the old, grey, one got stained very easily and had difficult to clean nooks & crannies in it. This one is much easier to clean. I also like the option for different standby periods before it automatically switches off. Very useful to be able to change it if you want it to stay on longer for any reason. Yes, the descaling light does seem to come on quite frequently, but I live in a hard water area and use the machine several times a day so am happy with that. The interval can be reset for different water hardness or, as previous reviewers/comments have said, you can just run plain water through it alternate times!! TL:DR: It is more compact than the ESAM 4200.S, quieter and makes a better, more consistent cup of coffee. Cleaning it is no more complicated and it comes with clear instructions (if you follow them properly). It is a great improvement on the previous model and I am very happy with it!

Great for morning Coffees at Home!
The machine lived up to my expectations . A month of use now and I am quite satisfied . Cleaning is easy and much faster with this wand style milk steamer as opposed to the Carafe models A tip to reduce maintenance - keep a spare mug under the spouts while starting up and also while shutting down. This will collect the water used by the machine used for heating up and cleaning after you are done, instead of collecting in the drip tray below, significantly reducing the number of times you need to empty the drip tray.

Not satisfied at all
Very unhappy with this product. The ground coffee compartment does not function properly and either distribute water (with no coffee) or is always jammed. Not very satisfied with the taste of the coffee from the Coffee beans area either. I tried many different beans (some I have liked for years), adjusted the grinder, length, etc. but it still does not provide a good coffee.

Great product and not common in Canada
Great product and not common in Canada. Fill it with water and beans, press the button and it makes you a fresh cup that tastes way better than any drip machine. Maintenance and operation is very easy. Instructions are helpful. Make sure vendor sells you a machine that can handle Canadian/USA 120 W vs Europe's 220W. Just because you buy it on Amazon.ca doesn't mean that this is the case. Check with vendor. I use this for an office with 15 employees and it works great. Grinder can be pulled out and replaced!
