Peace of mind
If you watch Person of Interest or if you just keep up with the news about hackers blackmailing people with footage from their webcam, then this is certainly the product for you. It's not that you're paranoid, though. The EyeBloc serves many purposes and does so in an ergonomic way. Like other commenters, I've used laptops with a webcam shield, but those were adhesive and left a residue and didn't even stick on for long. The EyeBloc solves both those shortcomings: it has tension in its build to stay on without the need for any adhesive. This way you can use it on many devices without permanence. I use it on my Microsoft Surface and can even close the tablet with the EyeBloc still on. The other thing the EyeBlock does is protect my webcams--both of them. Tablets now come with a front and back camera for facetime and photography. The EyeBloc covers both! No scratches, no dust--I just slide it out of the way when I need a camera. So whether you want privacy or protection from scratches, you need to ask yourself: how much do you value peace of mind? This item has an added shipping price, but otherwise is worth every dollar for the peace of mind it affords you. It's everything I wanted to invent on my own, but engineered with excellent materials. Great job to the designers! ---------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE AFTER 1 YEAR It's been a year since I last got the EyeBloc. I just purchased a second one now that I have a new device. Things I have learned in this past year: - Other options like a post-it note are literally tacky. If your device is $400, its accessories need to make it look like a device worth that much. The new price on the EyeBloc makes it negligible compared to the price of your device. - There's apps that lock your camera. As long as it's digital though, hackers can hack it; if it's a physical block, they can't do anything. - Throw away fear and paranoia. The EyeBloc is for those who are proactive in making themselves and those around them safe.

Popped Right Off My Laptop :(
OK, I reallllllllyyyyyyyyy wanted to post a positive review. I saw this on Shark Tank and loved the idea. Sure, it's a little expensive, but it's much more attractive than just using a piece of paper to cover a webcam. I wanted it in a color, but black was the only one in stock at the time. Here's the deal... It didn't fit my laptop AT ALL. :( I could push it down over the webcam, but then it just slid up and popped right off. It wouldn't stay in place! So... I guess this isn't really a one-size-fits-all. If you have a laptop that's slightly different than regular models, this probably isn't a good purchase for you.

It does work very wellto keep people from spying on you
It is true someone could use your Webcam to spy on You. It has been featured on "Shark Tank". I use it on my Laptop and I nearly all ways leave my Screen up and someone could be watching me. The only bad thing I found about this product is if You use on Your Laptop or Tablet it is very easy to slip off. I only had mine 2 days and I didn't take it off and I went from my Bedroom to my Car and some how I lost it and could never find it. I do like the idea that when your using it no one could watch you. I herd the US Government had Microsoft and Apple to put in a backdoor into their Operating Systems where they could watch you and hackers knows about this. Some Times thieves could use your webcam to see if your at home or not. Just saying. You can not tell someone is watching.

Not quite what I was looking for
This thing is weak. It technically works on my macbook air but is quite bulky. Not something I would keep on there. It works ok for an iPad but I would recommend looking elsewhere. If you find something good, lemme know!

Been waiting for this
The investors on Shark Tank made a mistake. I bought this as soon as I heard of it. They were right about the price. I see you lowered it. UPDATE: Just got the 2 eyeblocs I ordered and it is exactly what I expected. Unless there was a design change, I don't know why people are saying it won't fit a macbook pro or that it slides around. I have a retna macbook with a very slim screen and it fits very snugly and allows me to close the lid. It doesn't close totally flat, but enough to put it to sleep and make it mobile. I also have a 17" older macbook pro. It fits even more snugly. People are right, the lid won't close on the older macbook if it stays dead center. . . but if I slide the eyebloc to the side the latches on the lid close properly and the eyebloc sits in the space left at the edges. Open the lid, slide the eyebloc back, and I'm done. Not a big deal yet. Tested it on my iPad, worked fine. Tested it on my iPhone 4 just for kicks, worked. The only thing it won't fit on are the Logitec webcams I have on my other two computers, but they are very think and rounded on the back. People concerned that the eyebloc leaves a mark, I think that may be a fair concern on some screens. It could be softer somehow where plastic meets screen For now I stuck some soft tape to the inside to make the surface less rough. That's better than putting the sticky side on the screen like I used to do with tape or a post- it note. . . and what is the alternative out there right now that has this level of simplicity? I guess time will tell, but I don't understand how angry some of the reviews seem.

Convenient and effective. High valued product.
I used to use tape to cover my webcam, but that left a sticky film on my camera lense. I switched to a paper clip and paper but that scratched up my new computer screen and case. Alas - eyebloc solved the problem! Ergonomic, sleek and thoughtfully designed with a computer-friendly interior. My webcam is covered quickly, easily, with no downside. Also, good price for a good product.

Not really impressed. Bulky and troublesome.
It covered the camera up well, but it kept falling off and my laptop won't close all the way with it on, so it had to be removed every time I shut down my computer. I ended up getting pressure-sensitive stickers instead for less than half the price and it's worked exponentially better for me so far.
