Will they work during fire season?

I guess it depends on where you live. During the worst of it here in S.F. area it seemed to work well. I would gather better information from expert in your area. I was surprised at how effective it was. Again, check with fire or health departments in your area.

Are the filters individually wrapped?

No they are not, and they are not 5 layered filters (3 at best).

Can these be used to filter impurities for my existing shower filter

These filters fit inside face masks I purchased during the Covid 19 pandemic. I wouldn't know if they'd fit or work for that purpose, but if the measurements match, you could try it. Personally, I think I'd try to buy the filters that are meant to fit the shower if you can find them.
