THE NO.1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER'A beautiful little book by a brilliant mind' DAILY TELEGRAPH'Effortlessly instructive, absorbing, up to the minute and - where it matters - witty' GUARDIANThe world-famous cosmologist and #1 bestselling author of A Brief History of Time leaves us with his final thoughts on the universe's biggest questions in this brilliant posthumous work.Is there a God?How did it all begin? Can we predict the future? What is inside a black hole?Is there other intelligent life in the universe? Will artificial intelligence outsmart us?How do we shape the future? Will we survive on Earth?Should we colonise space? Is time travel possible?Throughout his extraordinary career, Stephen Hawking expanded our understanding of the universe and unravelled some of its greatest mysteries. But even as his theoretical work on black holes, imaginary time and multiple histories took his mind to the furthest reaches of space, Hawking always believed that science could also be used to fix the problems on our planet. And now, as we face potentially catastrophic changes here on Earth - from climate change to dwindling natural resources to the threat of artificial super-intelligence - Stephen Hawking turns his attention to the most urgent issues for humankind.Wide-ranging, intellectually stimulating, passionately argued, and infused with his characteristic humour, BRIEF ANSWERS TO THE BIG QUESTIONS, the final book from one of the greatest minds in history, is a personal view on the challenges we face as a human race, and where we, as a planet, are heading next.A percentage of all royalties will go to charity. Review: Hawking’s last masterpiece. - Just before reading this book I read Brief history of time by Hawking which was mind boggling too. I feel this book is the continuation of that book in a better way, as Hawking has done more research and has learned more from his experience and came up with better ideas. You won’t find this hard to read as he has written it in a simple language so that every one can understand. The way the book has answered all 10 major questions related to mankind is just in a perfect synchronised way that the reader will be enjoy to finish them in that way.I am glad that I have read this greats man’s last work and it has certainly changed my perspective towards things. Review: Simplified and understandable answers to questions that we ponder - The book is a collection of answers given by the man with such a beautiful heart and very innovative and creative brain. His answers and the reasoning to it are really insightful. The ways in which things can be seen and perceived are delightful to know. Will recommend

A Thoughtful Farewell from a Giant Mind
Published posthumously, this book brings together Stephen Hawking’s final thoughts on ten of the most profound questions we face. His daughter, Lucy Hawking, and the Stephen Hawking Estate were closely involved in shaping this collection, ensuring it reflects his voice and vision. This is Stephen Hawking’s final message to the world — a collection of ten essays tackling some of the most pressing and profound issues of our time. The chapters span a wide range of topics: from the existence of God and the future of artificial intelligence, to whether time travel is possible and how we might survive as a species. What makes the book compelling is Hawking’s ability to engage with such heavy questions without losing sight of his audience. He never talks down to the reader, yet he rarely lets the science become impenetrable. Two chapters especially stood out to me. Chapter 1, where he addresses the question “Is there a God?”, is striking for its clarity and honesty. While he’s respectful in tone and careful not to ruffle religious feathers unnecessarily, he is still frank and direct in stating his views. And Chapter 5, on black holes, is probably the most accessible and elegant explanation of the subject I’ve come across. Hawking distills decades of research into a few pages of crisp, often witty, insight. That said, despite Hawking’s efforts to simplify concepts and keep a touch of humour throughout, the book does get a bit dry at times — an understandable challenge given the complexity of the material. Some chapters are simply more engaging than others. Still, this book is a wonderful parting gift — a thoughtful, accessible summary of how Stephen Hawking saw the universe, our role in it, and the questions that should drive us forward. Highly recommended for anyone curious about science, philosophy, or the future of humanity. Pros: Ambitious questions, clearly explained science, and Hawking’s trademark curiosity. Cons: Occasional dry stretches and uneven pacing across chapters.

If you understand Deep Physics, this book is a must read for you.
I have chosen a career of Theoretical Physics not randomly but because of my intense curiosity of knowing about this universe in an abstract way since I was born. I am a 15 year old and I found this book by Sir Stephen Hawking a true interesting and easy to read if you understand astrophysics and having questions stuck in your mind mentioned behind and in the index of this book. From the foreword from Eddie Redmayne to the last question 'Will Artificial Intelligence outsmart us?' I found every detailed of this book. If you're calling this book boring you may have not understood it. Well looking for more books from the same author and related to Theoretical Physics. Thank you for reading the review

A must-read book
This book starts with an excellent, insightful Introduction by Prof. Kip Thorne on the life and contributions by Hawking. I am awestruck by the fact that Prof. Hawking was laid to rest between Newton and Darwin! What a wonderful tribute to Hawking! What an amazing foresight by the British in honouring him so. Do not miss reading the tribute to her father by Lucy Hawking in the Afterword. This is a book meant for lay folks who, at one time or other, did ask some one (or wanted to ask) one of the Big questions listed in this book. Many of the concepts and descriptions here are familiar to those who have read his previous books. Foreword, Introduction and Afterword are unique in this last book in the name of Hawking. Liked this hard cover edition, and the picture in the jacket.

In past few years this is the only book I finished very quickly. Felt like having one on one lecture with Dr. Hawking.

Complex Concepts with Easy Explanations
Hawking in this book is able to introduce complex concepts with straightforward explanations, and without underestimating the reader's intellect. Besides his great sense of humor, despite of his well-known disabling condition, it seems he wanted to share to the world all the knowledge he crafted along with his life before leaving us, in March this year. Although he knew this would be a very difficult task, he selected the main questions which last and defy the humanity, and provided answers correlating it vast knowledge to those questions, using some tools as general relativity, quantum physics and walking around the “theory of everything” (ToE). The result varies from astonishment from “well, how no one thought about that before?”. Either way, it is a very pleasant reading for anyone interested in “Where did we come from?” or “Where are we going to?” like questions.

Big ideas from a big heart
Amazing how a person inflicted by so much hardship as Stephen Hawking was, could not only continue to be a world-renonwed scientist until his last day, but to remain positive and optimistic about the fate of the human race. This collection is Hawking's replies to 'big questions', such as how was the universe created; and how it may end. Throughout this collection, Hawking showcases that wonderful, oh-so-British dry wit that he was so famous for (and he doesn't forget to mention that he delivered said wit via a mechanical American accent!) Thought-provoking, enriching, and accessible, this popular science collection is aimed at the general public but doesn't shy from going into deep explanations. I found Hawking's predictions about AI far more optimistic than what some scholars are currently saying (Hawking's 'answers' were comiled over a decade ago, before the real advent of gen-AI), and his notion of 'human' future which is basically a conscious computer is a bit chilling. Hawking also doesn't believe that space colonisation is a near-future thing, which is a sobering thought to those who are looking towards a holiday on Mars. All in all, an accessible, challenging read, filled with Hawking's charm and dry British humour. Nice way to remember by the late and great Prof Hawking.
