Daily Use for a Year โ Still Love It
Iโve been using the Ember Smart Mug 2 almost every day for about a year (I skip caffeine on Saturdays), and itโs easily one of my favorite purchases. I havenโt had a single issue with it during that time. What I like: Keeps my coffee at an exact, consistent temperature once set The app lets you dial in your preferred temperature, and the mug remembers it afterward Build quality feels premium, and the copper finish looks great on my desk Works especially well when paired with a sliding lid to extend battery life With the lid, I rarely need to use the charging coaster while drinking What could be better: The app can be a bit annoying to use, especially during initial setup Battery life is short without a lid, so slow sippers will want the charging plate within reach Once everything is set up, the app becomes mostly hands-off, and the mug just does its job. If you like your coffee or tea at a precise temperature and tend to sip slowly, this mugโespecially with a lidโhas been a daily essential for me.

Love that my coffee doesn't go cold as my mug gets closer to being empty.
The one thing that I wish this mug had is a indicator light on both sides. I sit the cup on the left of my keyboard. This puts the indicator light where I can't see it. Other than that, it keeps the coffee warm the whole time. Based on some reviews, I bought a lid for this mug. However, I don't think it is necessary. The mug comfortably holds 220 grams/ounces. That's about a third less of what I usually brew. So, there's less to drink and less time for the coffee to go cold. But, if you're outside or on the road traveling, this mug will keep your coffee warm and the lid will serve to mainly keep stuff out of it or prevent spillage.

Great mug, a LOT expensive, but definately works.
The original review was accurate, but now that I've had the mug for 6 months (Originally 3 star), I have to reduce its rating... The mug itself is great, works well, and does what it says. It keeps my drinks at the temperature I set it to. The reason I'm reducing the rating here for 2 reasons. 1) Trying to reach an actual person or something more intelligent than an automated help desk, is seeming to be nearly impossible. - To expand on this: I have been unable to find any contact information to report any issues I do have with the mug or software (I have no issues with the mug so far, but the software annoys me to no end). 2) The software for the mug is so far below par, that they might as well just have a digital display on the side to show the temp and just set it that way. - Let me expand on this: a) If you don't keep your mug paired, ie: carry it with you 100% of the time, anytime it isn't paired, it forgets its pairing, and you have to go through the pairing procedure again to reconnect it. My car is a 2014, and the BlueTooth in it remembers my phone when I start it up, but this mug cannot. b) There's no way to override the heating to ON, if the sensor doesn't trigger to say the mug isn't empty, it won't turn on, even in the software Bluetooth connection. Through some digging, it states that it determines if it's empty by the significant difference in temperature: The mug is cold, pour warm to hot fluid in it, and it detects the temp change and determines it's not empty. I understand this is probably a safety feature to prevent the mug from burning out, but there should be some way to turn it on when you put room temp liquid into a room temp mug. (I usually make a batch of tea, and if I don't finish it all in a day, I use it the next day, I shouldn't have to microwave the first cup just to get it hot enough for the mug to realize it's full.) So in summary: -The mug is absolutely great, so far it's held up fine, with no chips/scratches. Works great to keep temp set. -Software needs a LOT of work. The biggest issue is the Bluetooth connection/protocol. I shouldn't have to re-pair it every day just to connect to the mug to change it from Tea to coffee, or some other temp for a different drink. -Better contact forms, for when you can't resolve the problem via automated help. I'm hoping that by rating this at only 1 star, maybe I'll get a way to contact the company, or at least they'll read this review and take the issues under advisement. Maybe even make a suggestions/complaints form to get these issues noticed so they know what to work on. Until I see a way to contact a live person, even if it's just email, or something simple, I cannot rate this higher than a 1. IF I were having a real issue with this mug (like it not working) I'd be out the money it cost me to buy it. Original Review Below this line: *********************************** Keeps my tea at the temperature I set, making every sip enjoyable. Pros: Heats relatively fast Keeps Temp very well. Con's: It's for Right Handers, if you're left-handed, (or hold the mug in your left hand), the LED is on the back side where you can't see it (less of a problem while you're actually holding it), but if you set it down for grabbing with your left hand you can't see the LED. The software is a little glitchy. I tried setting it to Celsius for a little bit, then when I tried to switch it back to Fahrenheit, it wouldn't switch, I had to reset the app completely to default to get it back to Fahrenheit. Couldn't find a contact form for issues (like the above software glitch), or suggestions.

A daily luxury Iโm completely hooked on
I use my Ember Smart Mug every single day, all day long, mostly for herbal tea, and it has honestly become one of my favorite little indulgences. Being able to set my drink to the exact temperature I want and have it stay there consistently is a luxury Iโve become completely addicted to. No more lukewarm tea or coffeeโevery sip stays just right. Because I use it throughout the day, I usually keep it on the charging coaster, which works great for maintaining that ideal temperature for hours. The auto-sleep and motion detection features make it incredibly easy and convenient to use. A small note: you do need to be careful not to get the charging coaster wet, since that can damage the charging pins. I also ended up buying an off-brand charger and lid, and both worked well for me. I loved mine so much that I bought one for my husband and another for my daughter, which really says it all. Overall, this mug is an absolute game-changer and the perfect everyday indulgence for anyone who loves coffee or tea at a truly consistent temperature.

Worth it!!
Iโve had my ember mugs for over 2 years and they still work great! I use them every day. They make a huge difference! Keep the charging puck clean and dry. I did have to replace one of the charging pucks because it got wet and dirty and quit working well but other than that, they are great! Highly recommend!

It works, just wish it was a little hotter
2nd Edit. I am restoring my original 4-star review (see below for why I dropped it, 1st edit). After using this for several months, even though it doesnโt keep my coffee at a temperature I prefer (much hotter than 145), and I wish it lasted longer than 90 minutes, it has become my go-to mug, especially for morning coffee. The top half of the coffee cools down too fast for me but the bottom half does stay pretty hot, and I like that. I never used to drink a full cup because I hate lukewarm coffee; I just have to drink it a little faster than I want. So back to four stars. Edit: after using the mug for a few weeks, Iโve come back to lower it a star. Really the 145 degrees is just too low as a top temperature and I canโt pop it in the microwave to heat it up because of the components. It takes too long to recharge. I want more than 90 minutes warming time. Taking the base and plugging it in wherever I go isnโt feasible. I really, really want to like this mug and Iโll keep using it (because it was so expensive). I could overlook the other things that bug me if it kept it heated to a much higher tempโ160 to 180. This only keeps my coffee at 145 degreesโnot hot enough. I noted when the coffee was put in the mug it was 182 degrees (as measured by the blue tooth settings); I wanted it to stay at this temperature, 145 is too low. It only works for 90 minutes. Not long enough for me, I drink my coffee over time. It will stay on longer if you keep it in the charger disk but I donโt have plug ins where Iโm normally drinking the brew. So not convenient. Other than that, it does work so I really canโt complain. It meets all the specs it laid out. It was my fault for not realizing 145 degrees isnโt as hot as Iโd like it to be. Thatโs why I give it 4 stars, they didnโt misrepresent at all and it does work. Canโt fault them.

Redemption from the ember 1.0.
Redeemed from the ember 1.0. Actually holds long enough charge and keeps coffee warm. Big enough to hold a whole cup of coffee. Love the black color option. App actually pairs. Donโt judge based on the ember1. Totally worth it!!!!

Two plus years of use. A flawed product, but still something I use everyday and adore.
I've used this mug for close to two years now. This is one of those products that starts as a luxury splurge, but a year in you realize just how essential it's become to your routine. It will sneak it's way into your favorite things if you are a regular coffee or tea drinker at all, and it's role becomes undeniable. The thought of no longer having it genuinely makes you feel a tiny bit sad. I could beam all day about how much I love this ridiculous mug. So, instead I'm going to rant about all the dumb things about it that detract from using it. The form factor is good enough, but the handle is poorly designed. The edges are too squared off, the shape isn't made for human hands being so thin, and because the mug is so bottom heavy it takes these minute design flaws and emphasizes them. I've not had any issues with the coating, but I am careful not to use metal utensils to stir things in it. While the bottom looks a bit scuffed up, the coating is just fine. Positively, the outside of the mug does not get hot so you don't need the stupid handle to hold it. Handle is pretty at least. The way the mug charges uses two prongs that connect with a ring on the bottom of the mug. It's not inductive charging and I'm not sure it could be given the threat of liquids. I don't have much of a problem with it being contact based and it nestles nicely into the base. The issue resides in the prongs themselves. They are tiny little spring loaded prongs that are predisposed to break if you do not baby the coaster. Sideways pressure of just putting the mug on the coaster from too flat of an angle over and over can jam the springs or break the prongs. I understand the need to have it be spring loaded to ensure contact, but must the contacts be so small and fragile? It just seems like there's so many better solutions to this problem than small aftermarket parts. Although, it does mean more replacement coasters sold. I gifted my mom one of these for Christmas and she's been through two coasters with broken prongs. The app is modern looking, and is just fine. Just fine like everything else. They want the app to look clean and minimal so instead of just having simple things like an on/off on the app home screen, you have to swipe in an unintuitive way to find that basic function located among temperature favorites instead of on the screen with your base temp and adjustment. There's nothing indicating you can swipe to see a screen of options. Nor can you control the sleep timer on the mug through the app for inactivity. It's just not using the space it has available all that well so everything feels like it has one too many steps involved for basic interaction. Prime example of form over function and the entire thing could use a redesign. If I only have a single mug registered to my device, why make me click the mug to connect and control each time the app starts up. Just default to the one thing it's linked with and auto-connect until more devices are added. And these features would be useful because the mug just doesn't detect empty or almost empty all that well. Many times I've had an empty cup and it just keeps on trucking, burning whatever last remnants have evaporated and been left in the bottom. Most of the time it works as it should, other times, you need to hold the mug completely upside down for a few seconds for the accelerometer inside to figure it there's no possibility there is anything in the cup. If you use cheap flavored creamers you will quickly learn of the burnt smell of sugars. With no control over an inactivity timer it's a bigger problem than I would like. These minor issues all add up, because no part of the product is undeniably extraordinary. The battery has degraded relatively quickly with heavy use and no longer lasts more than 20-30 minutes off of the coaster. It burns things all the time when I've not noticed it hasn't properly triggered the sleep function. With the heater being in the bottom, the temp feels progressively hotter as you drink more and more. And now more recently, the rubber ring on the bottom of mine has deformed under the heat of normal handwashing and no longer can seat properly. It's only a matter of time before repeated washing has done away with all the glue that secures it. It wants to have that marriage of luxury form and function that Apple-like products have, but when the function is so simple, it finds these odd ways to come up short. Like the LED indicator only being on one side of the cup, sorry lefties, or lack of optional auditory cues for the sake of convenience and accessibility. It is still just a mug. It does keep things wonderfully warm. I use it everyday, and often several times. The minuscule comfort of a hot coffee or tea keeping it's temp as I toil away at projects is annoyingly priceless. It has injected an unexpectedly strange joy in my day to day life that makes the absurd price of a cup feel entirely justified. I've not touched another mug in my home since receiving it just about. I just hope the next iteration is a bit smarter and the cost saving measures aren't as apparent.

6 cups down and it the WORST
Ember cups are a fantastic concept and incredibly useful, but Iโve encountered some challenges with the company's aftercare service. It's frustrating that I've had to rely on Amazon for repeated replacements of my cups. For users who utilize them often, it can become a hassle to request repairs or full replacements regularly. Itโs disappointing, especially considering the investment. I hope the company can improve their customer support to match the quality of their product!

Great for coffee lover, not so great for tea lovers
The Ember Smart Mug 2 can keep your tea/coffee at the perfect temperature for hours, making every sip as good as the first. However if you like very very hot tea then this product is not for you. Because usually we like tea to be very hot. In short it does not give you a boiling hot tea. just enough to keep it not cold.
