Being somewhat "untrained" in reading graphic novels/comics, I tend to mainly focus on the text. There is a fair amount of gore, as one may expect, and I couldn't bear to look at some of the frames. That said, the violence never seems out of line and the story holds nicely. Needless to say, I got compendiums 2 and 3 as well, in addition to the TV series on DVD, and am eagerly waiting for compendium 4 to be released! The illustrations look beautiful in black and white. The book is really heavy covering more than 1000 pages. I would've preferred a hard cover for this price but its an excellent graphic novel.
