Good repackaged item
It seems to work fine. I got it used/repackaged as described in amz listing. Saved some money. I tested it as instructed by using lighters and turning on gas stove a couple seconds for it to allow dial calibration. The sound is not terrible or loud. Dont leave batteries in it when not being used to prevent corrosion.

This product works!
Right out of the box this product worked. I read a lot of reviews before I purchased this product so I was a little sceptical. Read the instructions first. My wife was complaining of a gas leak after our Co2 alarm went off. I told her that the batteries were low and I just needed to change them. For peace of mind I needed a tester that would provide a quick and accurate answer. This product arrived fast and the seller provided back up information with an email. Great response on behalf of the seller. Helpful information for someone that perhaps didn't read the easy to understand instructions provided. Some of the reviews I read were negative and I'm not sure how that's even possible. I put in the batteries and adjust the settings as per instructions and tested the area around my propane fireplace for leaks. Nothing! So I then needed to test if this thing even worked so I turned on my propane gas barbeque without lightning it as many had done before me. I waited a few seconds and used the tester to see if it could detect the gas and before I even came close it started detecting the gas. The alarm isn't crazy load but works perfectly but changes from high to low as you move away from the detected leak. Visually displaying intensity on the display too. I carefully checked again for leaks around my fireplace and nothing. Great product to have in your toolbox for nothing else but peace of mind. If you do suspect a gas leak in your home, you certainly don't want to wait a day or two to find out. Order this before there's a problem and keep your family safe. Great product. Easy to use. Trust this seller. They go above and beyond most of the others I've bought from on Amazon and the price can't be beat either.

Seems to work fine
Given the fact that there are many to choose from, I didn't have much concern about it not operating as advertised. However, I didn't have an immediate need as I decided to have an experienced natural gas installer finish off my new range installation. I did my first ever DIY job on about 18 feet of black pipe for a gas line that had 6 or 7 90-degree turns from the basement to the kitchen. (I have been installing various types of plumbing for many years, never gas.) When the professional came he saw all my work and made the final installation. When he ran the leak test the traditional way; soapy water solution, none of my work, and none of his were leaking. He said he doesn't trust those gas testers and said even if you breathe on them they can set off a false alarm. I tried it, and he was correct. But I had faith it would work. A few days later I decided to make some changes in the kitchen for a better fit of my gas range. After all of it was completed I set the gas tester per the instructions, testing it first with a lighter than using the gas from my range and it worked fine. I followed that up with soapy water and the results were the same, no leaks. Natural gas is something you want to be 100% sure about. I have confidence in the tester, but what's the harm in a free soapy-water confirmation? None.

Simple, but effective
I bought this because the house we moved into had some serious issues with the ventilation where Ptraps were bypassed & H2S Poison was leaking back into the house. Not only has this device helped troubleshoot the rest of the ventilation system, but it also helped me to double check all the gas connections too. It’s a very simple design, with a wheel to adjust the sensitivity? But it’s effective in detecting natural gasses. It is loud, & has an annoying buuuuuzzzzz when something is detected but that’s a good thing, right? You wanna know if there is an unwelcome gas in your house. It does detect the gasses fairly quick, but takes a few seconds to reset. You get what you pay for. Accuracy is undeniable, & I say that because I used it on my dog when he had an upset tummy and was VERY gassy! The meter rose to Three Bars! I hope this little device helps you as much as it helped me, & gives you the peace of mind that your house is gas free.

Unit works well and has an all-important sensitivity adjustment
After multiple failures of various detectors installed in my camper, I opted for this portable device with a much needed sensitivity control. Although this is a battery operated portable device, I installed a 5-volt USB power supply where my previous detectors were installed and added a USB power cord to the unit. I adhered the unit to my camper wall with a velcro strip. Now I have the safety monitoring needed for the camper, and if I need to use the unit elsewhere, I simply detach it and install (3) AAA batteries and it's ready to go. The previous sensors were far too sensitive, resulting in annoying false alarms and they had high failure rates. I couldn't even put on after-shave lotion without setting them off -- ridiculous and very annoying! The sensitivity control on this Y201 is terrific, allowing you to stop the false alarms. ANY detector should be tested weekly, but instead of a test button, why not use the real thing -- I test the unit once a week with a BIC lighter. Also, the camper manufacturer installs the detectors at the floor level, where they can pick up dirt and dust, setting off the unit and possibly even clogging the sensor or eventually disabling it. LP gas is heavier than air and will stay by the floor, but there is no real reason to put the sensor that low to the floor. With the Y201, you can point the sensor down, where it will not have the tendency to pick up dirt or dust, and it will be at a more desirable level from the floor, about 5 or 6 inches. Also, because LP gas is detected by odor, the only time you really need a detector is when you are sleeping! Please note that this unit has an audible feedback feature that indicates proper functioning -- it makes a ticking sound. If you are a light sleeper, the ticking sound may bother you, so keep that in mind. I got used to the sound and it does not bother me at all, and I am a light sleeper. It's like a clock with a second hand, although it is slightly faster than that. Anytime the detector is not needed, it can simply be switched off, and this will also prolong the life of the unit. If you are forgetful and cannot remember to make sure the unit is on when needed, then this may not be for you. If you have small children (or cats) around that could possibly mess with the controls, then this may not be for you. As for me, I am very pleased with the unit and happy that such a device was available. I have been using it for a couple of months now, and I will revise this review accordingly if problems develop. The company now offers a lifetime warranty for the unit, which is amazing since all LP sensors have a limited lifetime, similar to an incandescent light bulb.

Yes, it found my issue!!
I am familiar with these types of devices from decades ago. I started having a issue with sewer gas smell on the very cold days. Couldn't find source until after purchasing this detector. I read the reviews and decided to try it out for myself. I read the entire operating manual and it all sounded familiar to me. As for myself I insert new batteries of my own regardless of batteries supplied on anything I purchase. Before turning on the unit I turn the sensitivity dial all the way down before turning it on. Turn on in a fresh air area and let it warm up. When it warms up and amber light goes out adjust the sensitivity dial to were the red light comes on and back it off just a little to were the light turns off. Any air freshener, smoke, cologne, lotion on hands with mess with it and give you false readings. I found my issue which was a crack in a pipe within the wall behind the kitchen sink. The fumes were coming up towards the cabinets up to the ceiling. It's an old house and I found the other areas that the fumes were getting into the house. I was able to seal those areas and repair the pipe. No more smelling sewer gas fumes according to my nose and this detector!!! It does work it used properly!

My 10 week experience with this gas sniffer...
I've read all the reviews, like you should too. I won't repeat a lot of what has already been mentioned. I bought this to help detect and sniff out tiny gas leaks in my 70 year old house. These were leaks that I basically could not smell with the exception of that 'every once in awhile' picking up the faint smell of gas whiff in the air of the basement. So far, all of my detected leaks have come from pipe threads that have dried out and have sprung these tiny leaks. In retrospect, bubbles could not find any of them... and I got a sense that many were lingering for possibly decades. Some exist around the old style shut off valves where the stem packing dries out. This device is very sensitive and only needs to be around the leak for a few moments. It accurately and quickly has pinpointed these problems and is almost too sensitive to a fault. While it also detects sewer gas, which will pool in a low spot, gas tends to float on the air and gravitate upward. I'm unsure as to how the 'smell' added (mercaptan) adds molecular weight thus sending the gas lower in the room. Regardless, the sensitivity of this device is five stars. What desperately needs fixing is the calibration wheel, which when zeroed in fresh air is already spun 75% up... leaving only a 25% remainder on the dial to adjust the amount of gas you want to consider as dangerous and needing immediate attention. The unit has no indication of percentages or concentration levels, so its a blind guess as to what the battery wasting led lights and buzzers are trying to tell you. Obviously its alerting you to the presence of natural gas, which is good thing... But when zeroed in fresh air, the calibration dial will have very little room left for actual calibration. A slight touch of the wheel will send it into overload WHEN ITS OUTSIDE in fresh air. That is a flaw that needs correction. The battery cover also needs a redesign as it often requires a circus act to remove it. If the incessant buzzing doesn't drive you crazy, then the 10-12 minutes of battery life will. This thing eats AAA batteries and needs three at a time to work properly. I can't validate the effectiveness of the unit once the low battery light comes on. It will still work and detect but I can't speak to the level of accuracy at that point. After 10 weeks of fairly decent usage... maybe a total of 5 hours, the unit is showing signs of breaking down. It started to give false readings with regularity. Its tone has changed and that tone has often become shaking and erratic and I'm starting to loose confidence. I still have a bunch off interior walls that I'm sniffing and will need to purchase a higher end unit to get me through my project. For this reason... failing sensitivity after 5 hours... I gave the unit 3 stars. Lastly... if you're going to use this thing only once a month for 5 minutes, I think its a good value for the average homeowner. If however you're drilling into walls and ceilings, and tracing gas lines thru your structure, I'd start with one of the more professional models offered on the internet.

Geweldig apparaat
