Excellent Product, NOT a miracle worker
Short review: This product works well if you don't expect a miracle and thoroughly remove as much loose rust as you can before applying Extend Rust Neutralizer. Long review: The biggest task I've used this on is for my vehicle's calipers which were rusty to the point where I could flake pieces off. I took them off and used the process of electrolysis to remove most of the rust and scrubbed them vigorously until the calipers looked mostly like shiny bare steel. I then painted the calipers with Extend Rust Neutralizer (which dries on rust as a black finish) and then coated them with caliper paint. The key to this product is removing as much rust as you can! If you can get down to bare metal as best as possible then use this product I believe it will work and last for a long time. It can only penetrate into the top most layer of rust. It will NOT convert flaky rusted apart things into like new shape. Also I had to buy a reman. caliper as well since it was too far gone, I did not scrub it down to bare metal as it was painted already, so I just painted it with the matching caliper paint I already had. In about 1 month the paint on that caliper had mostly come off leaving an orange rusty finish, the calipers I cleaned well and used Extend on are still rust free after over a year. I've also used this to paint over rust spots on vehicles with success in the fact that the rust hasn't spread further. By sealing the rust off from the air it has prevented the rust from getting more water & oxygen which has greatly reduced it's ability to spread. While I understand the rust is still spreading the speed is greatly inhibited. I would absolutely recommend this product as a base coat to put down under say a rust inhibiting primer, then paint and/or clearcoat. I believe that the product turning black is an actual function of it converting the rust. When it's painted on a non metallic surface it dries a semi translucent white color, but when applied to a steel with rust it dries black.

This product works well but is very slow acting.
I’m a HUUUUGE fan of Locktite products. Their bottom line and my retirement account have similar amounts of my money involved... my machine shop could not function without the reliability of Loctite products. Okay, enough of the groupie-sycophant 🤤 drooling! I purchased this product to address some surface rust showing on a blued rifle barrel end. It is the rough Aluminum Oxide black finish that is NEVER supposed to rust! 😂 I tried this first on a tin plated steel surface to see how thoroughly and quickly it works. It is a tan colored suspension that heavily coats the surface and dries slowly. After 30 minutes I wiped away the powder residue and there was evidence of darkening but the rust remained. I reapplied and let it set for 14 hours. The rusted area had darkened to deep blue/ black color and every evidence of rust wiped off with the residue leaving a perfectly smooth rust free black shiny surface. Next comes the outer surface of the rifle barrel. There is nothing in this which can penetrate more than 30/Millionths into the surface or effect the strength or temper of the metal. It is utterly safe for this application. I would NOT recommend it’s use INSIDE the barrel of any weapon or any surface exposed to high explosive pressures without first conducting a metallurgical analysis to determine alloy and existing static strengths and resistance to these chemicals. I use this product often in protecting mild steel surfaces and welds to tool steel where it will remain exposed to weather. It is truly an amazing product. As long as you don’t mind waiting a bit for it’s full effect. The protective surface lasts about a year on ductile cast iron wheels where I use it annually along with bearing grease to preserve and maintain heavy duty machined cast iron barn door rollers and rail. It was sent to me within 2 days of ordering. This seller is fast, affordable and carries a great product.

Just follow directions and make sure dry. I used Heating Gun to ensure all applications set up.
Easy to use and took care of the rust on the dishwash rack that I needed to repair. I applied the neutralizer and let dry it turned brown after dry. I was able to use JB Weld on top of the neutralizer, let that set up and painted with the dishwasher paint recommended for the rack. Came out beautifully and looks and feels durable. (Note I used my Dewalt heat gun on all applications and it ensured everything set up)

Easy to apply and effective
This really works. It’s easy to apply. I applied it to surface rust on my truck and it turned it black and sealed it. After several rain events it shows no deteriorating.

Label says "Some rust must remain" and "may cause rust"
Other products in this category do not say this, and it's very confusing. The label states in all capital letters that some rust must remain, and may cause rust if no rust remains. But on actual jobs like rusting flashing on a window, you'll have paint to remove to get down to the rusting flashing and then not every inch of the flashing will have rust. So you sand the paint off of the flashing and try to not sand off the rust in the process? Impossible. You might be able to use a scraper, but will still encounter a metal surface that has some rust and some not. How do you apply this product to ONLY the rust spots? And where does the "rusty spot" end and the clean metal begin? Dab the product on the rusty spots and don't get any on the non-rusty metal right next to it. Not realistic. And with pitted metal the pits will have the rust in them nt the rest of the metal, so how do you apply to the tiny pits and not get on the rest of the metal. If Loctite really has an issue with causing rust, and their product is different than others on the market, then they need to reformulate.

Seems to Work
I am refurbishing an older twelve foot aluminum boat, Nissan out board and galvanized trailer. I got this stuff to use on the hardware of the boat trailer before spraying it with some "cold" galvanizing spray. It's been two months now and nothing is bleeding through. Read the directions carefully - this stuff needs a little surface rust to work. You cannot sand the rust off completely and then use this - it probably won't work. It will turn a black color when working and it dries quickly. The bottle is still 75% full so it doesn't take very much. I applied it with a cheap two inch chip brush.

Amazing solution, saved me lots of aggravation
Amazing product! Inherited a patio umbrella base that fits integrated into the patio stonework and it was terribly rusted. It's a specific base for this patio so I had no interest in trying to figure out how to replace it. Used this stuff, 2 applications as directed (2nd coat 20 minutes after the 1st) and then a 3rd coat 24 hours later. What a difference!!! It's saved me years on this base as well as the aggravation of trying to source a replacement. Reading some of the other reviews, I'm confused as to why it wouldn't have worked for them - maybe directions weren't followed for the time intervals between coats. But it definitely worked for me, hands-on amazing.

bottle was opened, unsealed and only 3/4 full
The lid was loose and the inner seal was torn and was only 3/4 full. It looked like someone bought it, used it and returned it. I paid for a new bottle and got a returned / used, not full one. The loctite itself is an effective product. I would not buy from this seller again.
