If I purchase multiple, will each set be different?

All these sets contain the same 6 different cars.

What scale is this for?

N scale. The smaller trains (not h o).

These will be a gift but confused on info about coupling - will they couple to a Bachmann engine bought in 2020?

These cars have knuckle type connectors. If the cars your connecting to have the same, the they'll work out of the box. Otherwise, you'll need to change the connector, which can be done pretty easily.
