Bug Ball Starter Kit - Biting Fly and Insect Trap, Pack of 2

The silicone is super tough and stand up to scraping (with a smooth but dull blade) when it’s time clean the dead flies, old glue and dust off. Each ball has about 1017 square inches of surface area, so one can will coat one ball each. The applicator brush is crap unless you’re coating small surfaces like cups or hats. I hung the ball from the ceiling from a guide wire to eye level, and pinched the bottom of the ball and attached a spring clamp to hold it steady while applying glue or cleaning for another coating. I used a carpenters pencil to put a few large dollops at the top and spread it downward, evenly. This method makes the application super quick and easy; ~5 minutes, with no mess or frustration. When it comes time to clean, I spray a light coating of diesel fuel all over the surface and let it sit for a minute to work through the old glue, bugs, and dust. Then I take a smooth but dull scraper and work from top down to clean the old stuff off. Once it’s all smooth again, I’ll use acetone or rubbing alcohol to clean the remaining diesel fuel off, otherwise the new glue will run and drip in the sun. Once it’s dry, reapply with new glue and you’re ready to destroy thousands more flies. Also, Olson makes a similar sticky product “Olson sticky stuff” that works just as well but costs 60% less per can.

Messy and didn’t catch any horseflies. Lots of gnats and flies so not a complete waste . Works to catch but didn’t attract anything so it’s just a matter of a bugs bad luck to fly into it

Every June we have yellow biting flies that make it miserable to go outside. The past several years I have been buying beach balls and black paint at dollar tree then spraying adhesive on them. Then when it rained the black paint washed off. This is so worth it. Simply air it up, it comes with a needle to do that, and paint on the adhesive that comes with it. It has a little handle to put a rope through to hang. It’s reusable and so simple. Highly recommend

I agree that the price is too high ($46 for 3 balls and goo!) and I wound up having to buy a bicycle pump to inflate them too. But! I put these up 2 weeks ago and I have successfully trapped several yellow flies and at least 3 horse flies with no new goo application so far. I follows the directions and hung these on the corners leading to the shadiest part of my patio. Because I hung them from existing gutters, one is hanging on the corner where the brick changes to white stucco and the other is against a brick wall near the corner. The one on the edge has caught a lot more flies than the one against the wall. Given the directions, I think it’s probably because the heat signature they give off is more apparent next to the cooler white stucco than the red brick. I won’t say we have no more flies, but their activity has significantly decreased, and I probably would have paid someone $50 to make that happen on any given evening that I got run off the patio into the house to escape biting flies before. I am not sure if you can buy the goo or the balloons separately ? I haven’t looked. Also they are bigger than I expected them to be (full on beach ball size!) and not pretty. You will have to figure out how to hang them; I have a third I am going to put by the garage on a shepherd’s hook I bought at the garden center. So again it’s a pretty big investment to catch some flies, but I have definitely caught a noticeable number of flies.

I have lots of deer and horse flies where I live. The balls are nothing more than a kids play ball with an anchoring point at the top. The adhesive is a pain to put on. I ended up dumping it around the ball and letting it drip to the bottom. The brush is way to small for the area you are trying to cover. I did catch a few deer flies when they buzzing me as I was putting the adhesive on. It works ok. I'm not sure how long the adhesive lasts before i have to try and reapply.

As someone who's been fighting Deer Flies for years, here's a tip: I used an old bird bath stand to place the ball, then coated it. Keep in mind folks, that deer flies love the color of Royal Blue. This I know to be fact; in fact I've tested different colors throughout the years. Deer Flies were swarming my royal blue gazing ball, so I moved the the inflatable ball, mounted in the bird bath stand next to the gazing ball. Also, keep in mind that deer flies won't normally attack in the shade, and they are attracted to movement, so I made a few trips across my yard in the direct sunlight to attract them, as I walked towards my trap, then, acted like I was being attacked. (Yes, I used myself as bait). When they see their insidious buddies attacking you, they join right in. My neighbors must think I've lost my mind, but the results are great!

I purchased these based on some of the reviews and other sites. They were placed at various height and locations, as recommended, but none of them were successful. They have been a waste of time, money and effort. This has been a bumper season for horse flies and deer flies, and after a month of placement they have caught a whopping 3 deer flies and 1 horse fly (along with a butterfly, a moth and numerous knats). These were placed near and around the paddocks with horses and donkeys, where the flies are prevalent, but nothing. I have killed more horse and deer flies with my hands in one day then these have caught in a month. Packaging: The balls were shipped in bags, but the cans of adhesive were not and leaked all over the inside of the boxes and the contents. Adhesive: Like other reviews, application with the little brush was futile and time consuming. Also, because it went on so thick and clumpy with the brush, a lot of it melted and dripped off in the heat. Fortunately there was still enough on the surface to catch what it could. I also utilized a can of the spray adhesive on one of the balls, which was remained on the ball, but was no more effective then the can stuff. Recommendation: Personally I will not purchase these again. I will purchased other adhesive and apply it to something else as the flies did not perceive these to be animals. I will change their locations in hopes of some improvement, and if so will provide and updated review.

These absolutely do not work. The sticky stuff just runs down the ball in the heat, doesn't attract flies. Super messy to put fly sticky on. Doesn't work at all! Super disappointing and cant return due to i used all 4 bug balls and cant return used items without getting charged.

the catch em sticky coating adhesive is totally useless as it is not sticky at all. Only leaves an oily film on surface of the ball which cannot stick flies or any other insect. If you can find another adhesive that actually is sticky it probably may work.
