Which way is this valve installed? I understand one way allows the vacuum to be pulled through and one flows freely but dont know which way to install

This device is a one way check valve used to permit vacuum to be applied to a vacuum storage tank. Think of vacuum as the opposite of air pressure and you will understand. The way to tell which way to install it is to put your mouth on one side and see if you can blow through it. If you can that is the direction that the vacuum will pass. The other way you can do it is to put your lips on one side and see if you can suck and get air to come through. If you can that is the side that should be connected to the vacuum generation device such as the intake manifold of your automobile.
