is this a tritium watch, which glows in the dark, or do you have to put the watch in direct light first before it shines at night?

Seiko does not make any tritium watches. The quality of the "glow paint" they use is good, but can not touch tritium in extended night (lack of light exposure) usage.

Does this watch have a sweep second hand, similar to most mechanical watches?

This watch has a 21,600 vph movement, the 7S36 (although some places list a 7S26c). It beats a bit slower than (and thus the sweep is slightly jerkier than) many of the midprice and higher automatics out there, which typically run at 28,800. It's sweepy, but the increments are more noticeable than on one of those watches.

If the watch is stopped, how long of normal movement does it take to get it going? If the watch is fully wound, how long will it run standing still?

It doesn't take much movement to get it ticking again after its reset. With a full wind it gets me through the night. However, there's no way to know when it's fully wound and there was a couple times it stopped in the morning before I woke. It made me about a half hour late to work one morning so i don't wear it to bed anymore!

Muy buen Reloj. La verdad es que es muy resistente. Lo he estado usando por casi 3 meses todos los días y casi para cualquier actividad y ha resultado ser una maravilla. Lleva el tiempo muy bien. Se adelanta alrededor de 5 segundos por día lo que es muy bueno porque regularmente relojes de este tipo se adelantan entre 15 - 25 segundos por día.

I REALLY LIKED THE WATCH FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS .IT THEN STARTED LOSING 5-10 MINUTES PER WEEK. LAST WEEK IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. THINKING IT WAS SIMPLY A BATTERY ISSUE I VISITED 2 LOCAL WATCHSMITHS WHO BOTH QUOTED 300 POUNDS FOR A COMPLETE REBUILD. I DO NOT EXPECT THIS FROM A SEIKO WATCH!!!!! ANY IDEAS?
