I have a pair of size Large and they would seem to easily accommodate at 42-44, so you may be able to extrapolate from this.

Are these shorts Knit or woven cotton? Thank you.

Not knit, at least not the pair I got for my husband- the lobsters. Whether they are cotton or not, I don't know.
