It is a flat button 3volt CR2016 Lithium battery that goes in a chamber located at the top right corner of the board. You need a small Phillips screwdriver to open the chamber. Look for a tiny screw at the top and a "thumbprint" indentation along the top edge. It is very inconspicuous. **Q: Can you back up your notes as you erase them on the app? Will I be able to see what i wrote yesterday on the app and for how long is it stored?** A: 8.5 doesnt allow for sync. the only app available is call JOT which is just to take a picture of what you have drawn. after erase on the 8.5, nothing can be done to retrieve it back. **Q: After all of the negative reviews I'm afraid to buy.
