No they are not the same thing. Ascorbic acid is found in citrus fruits as well as citric acid, but citric acid does not contain Vitamin C.

Is this made/packaged in a facility also handling nuts?

I don't think so. It does not state that anywhere on the package (which is a requirement) and it says pure product so I think it should be safe.

It's possibly made from black mold. Aspergillis Nigra I believe. It may not be spelled correctly bit it is NOT ascorbic acid. Ascorbic Acid is also sold as Vitamin C. Research research research.
