Great tank, great price, great fun.
I have two of the pro-versions of the HL Sherman, and both are fantastic. The one-star crowd needed to know that these tanks are for those who like to tinker, as they take continual adjustment and tuning to keep them at optimal performance; and that tinkering is much of the fun. The only drawbacks are the finicky smoke-generator, and the tight battery compartment, otherwise the are superb. There are also plenty of aftermarket items (stowage, crewmembers) to make it look even better). If you are looking for realistic action, fun, and an opportunity to use your handyman skills, this is the tank for you.

One of the best versions available!
First one I ordered did not shoot well. Returned it and tried a second tank. Second one works perfectly! Glad I gave it another try. This modified version is great and much better than the standard version. Here’s why: Updated gear boxes are awesome because they can go super slow or super fast, and the throttle is easy to control. This is great for my 6 year old boy as he can control it very well. Some throttle controls are very touchy and it’s hard to get the tank to creep along. The BBs shoot super hard! Very cool. We stack up small paper cups like buildings and shoot them during our tank battles, and the BBs just blast everything done. Super fun. The metal tracks and metal wheels are fantastic and get great traction. The remote on this version is superior to the standard version and older versions. It has 4 different sound settings instead of two. Also, BBs shoot by pressing the two top buttons. Others, you have to push one top button and then press canon joystick up. For kids, this results in the canon always pointing too high and they miss the target on the ground. Smoke works great! Don’t add too much liquid. Read instructions carefully. Smoke is a real cool feature. Uses more battery when you run smoke continuously. The upgraded battery is awesome. Depending on what you’re doing and terrain, you can get over 1 hour of run time. Many factors affect this however. Seller is great and super interested in making sure your purchase experience is a good one. Also, they know these tanks very well and upgrade them to have great performance. I have four heng long tanks and this seller is the best I’ve seen with their modifications. This tank, and the Tiger 1 I have (both from same seller) are superior to my T34 and Panther tanks. The details above make this tank just terrific, and the price is outstanding for all that you get. One last thing; the decals are impossible to get to stick to the tank, so I left mine off. Looks great without them!

Fun, with easy setup for a person with good mechanical skills
Love this, very pleased. Not a simple toy, a bit more sophisticated but not really difficult, absolutely great for modelers and skilled tinkerers. Some might not have the skills, but can surely get help from someone close to them. Coworker, family, etc. Everything works great so far. Decals had to be careful and fussy applying, but patience and finesse helps. Success! I did use tiny amounts of CA cement (thick superglue) on a couple of snap on accessories that weren't as tight as wanted, such as the 50 Cal mount to turret top. Going to be permanent anyway. Used only enough for a good stick, but not so much couldn't pull free and upgrade/repair/replace. I also went to auto parts store and purchased the thin black auto trim double stick adhesive tape for the other accessories. I used this in preference to the thicker white tape included. The thinner dark auto quality tape is very strong and disappears from view if applied carefully. Didn't want to glue all if changes were desired. I upgraded the the road wheels/suspension with the full metal set readily available. Have a recoil gun on the way, but the installed one is so good, may keep it. The BB cannon far more effective than expected. Shoots with surprising velocity (please don't hurt eyes or pets). Bought quality yellow ammo pellets. Won't reuse to prevent ingress of dirt. Always fresh clean to preserve operation. I am a mechanical engineer, and am in Tank Toy Heaven. I love the Sherman in particular. It was a great medium tank when designed, ultimately forced to do every tank job and some non tank jobs on the battlefield, even the ones for which it was not designed (such as directly facing much heavier tanks and artillery). Mistakes were made with some delayed upgrades, but overall, it was the unappreciated ugly behind the scenes one that still got it done in the end because of its unique durability and simplicity. The Sherman was the underdog. So I love it! A moment of honor and silence and appreciation to the men who had to do those impossible jobs. They got it done at great personal cost.

A good value for the model
That is pictures of my Mato Tiger 1 all metal tank a $600.00 tank next to my new Henglong Sherman. First off I removed the smoker and added 2.5lbs of lead fish weights. It weights 6lbs mine is now 9lbs with battery. More weight means more inertia, more stopping power, better traction, and a more realistic feeling. I thought plastic was a horrible idea for a tank to be made out of. However the combination of plastic to metal is ideal. I would only recommend models with metal tracks, sprockets, gearbox and etc. This tank is very easy to control. It has a high or low speed setting. Low is more realistic. It has 4 different tank engine sounds. 7 different volumes. The lights are very cool and bright. There is a slight kickback when the tank is fired very important in terms of realism. I would recommend this tank for someone who is on a budget, someone looking for nice details, and someone looking for an easy tank to learn how to use. I give it a 9 out of 10. If it was a little more heavier that would be cool. After all its a tank not racecar. Ken Sutiak. [email protected].

Loud Heavy Fun tank
To be honest I thought the tank was going to be "iffy". I thought it was going to be cheap and feel like Walmart toy grade from the discount aisle. Boy was I wrong! Tracks are metal sprocket, idle wheel! It feels amazing! Turrets rotates 360° for days! It shoot Bbs! My wife says it's LOUD! It's heavy! Everything a tank should be! Now I say this is a HOBBY GRADE tank! If it breaks you can buy replacement parts and or upgrade it to your liking! Super happy! VERY REASONABLY priced! Now can you take it out in the back yard with some damp grass after the sun's as been out for a bit yeah! Can you run it through fine course sand.... I wouldn't sand in general tends to break things when it comes to tiny motors and tacks! Hard to get out! Snow don't know but I will definitely try it later! Skate park...sure If you hate your tank! In the house to scare the crap out of your puppy who poops and pees in the house! Revenge! If your thinking about getting it just do it!

Lower Quality than Tamiya, but OK for Novices
Henglong needs to "up" their quality. Thier controller boards don't work as advertised. For instance, instructions say you can change the turret rotation speed, when in fact, you can't. Regardless of setting, the model takes 8.4 seconds to rotate 360 degrees. I contacted Henglong and they said the fixed speed was more realistic. However, rotating the turret 360 degrees in 8.4 seconds on a real M-4 Sherman is completely unrealistic. This is also the case for the "adjustible" braking function as advertised in the instructions. No matter the setting, the braking is the same. Next, certain functions are supposed to make a "don-don" sound, such as turning on the BB Pellet fire mode. Both on and off make a "don" sound, so you can't tell if it's in fire mode or IR mode until you activate the fire sequence. Next, changing to left-handed mode doesn't change the functionality as you'd expect. It only switches forward/backward motion and barrel raise/lower. It does not switch left/right turn and turret rotate functions. This makes left hand function unusable as it mixes maneuver and turret movements. Finally, my biggest complaint is the sound. The M-4 Sherman comes with the same sound options as the Tiger 1, the Panther G, and the Panzer IV. You can choose between two sound configurations, the Leopard 2 and the Tiger 1. HengLong should take a lesson from Tamiya and use realistic sounds from actual tanks, and not use the same files for multiple tanks. It's a realism crusher when you have a collection like I do.

Scaling and detail look awesome, but some Quality and Control issues.
The model looks very awesome and works as advertised. I gave it a 4 because I feel the cons can be addressed with better quality and control. So here are the pros: 1) Looks awesome and the scaling is good with the other 1/16th scale models. 2) The accessory components have nice detail and with some additional painting will look awesome. 3) Works as advertised right out of the box except for a couple issues noted below. I have to down grade it on the following issues: 1) All parts or accessories that are added for detail need to be re-secured/secured with a strong adhesive because they come off from the tank when it bumps into something or gets a jolt from climbing over something and then landing back down. Some parts I did not put on as it was obvious that the parts would break from either just handling it or the tank bumping into something. 2) The tracks were installed backwards. I had better traction and turning going backwards than forwards. Changing them was not to difficult. 3) When you use the Infrared system. This tank can shoot the other tanks even though the turret and barrel is facing the opposite direction from the target (We even went outside to confirm that it wasn't the IR signal bouncing off a surface of some kind. The IR emitter does not have any type of shielding to make it directional. 4) The battery compartment cover is only held in by a screw and tabs. Eventually, as much as the cover gets opened and closed, the plastic will wear out.
