Type M plug adapters (such as these) were definitely required in several of the places we stayed in South Africa. While some reviewers note that not all of their adapters worked, I'm happy to say all 3 of ours worked flawlessly for the 3+ weeks we were in South Africa. And the reassuring "red power light" and device connections on back and bottom allowed us to power two devices from each adapter -- which was great as several rooms only had one, or at most two outlets, and "load-shedding" meant that charging periods were limited. As a side note - you'll want to download the EskomSePush load-shedding app to your phone to have up-to-date schedules for planned power outages (2-8 hours per day) based on your location.

We used these electrical adapters across much of South Africa. They were sturdy and reliable, and we never had a single problem with them. We encountered several plug configurations in country but always had at least one adapter to match (since we bought two sets).

Took these on vacation to South Africa. They worked great where i stayed. This was a good buy.

I bought these just to be safe, although a number of articles said the new outlets now mandated in South Africa also would work with regular two prong European plugs. They turned out to be invaluable, as some of the South African outlets we encountered did not work with European plugs. They also presumably are safer, since the third plug is a ground. Pros: They worked. Cons: They are bulky and relatively expensive.

Purchased these for my trip to RSA. Worked perfect for charging my phone and camera battery. I really liked the robust design. Much sturdier than all the others I looked at.

There is nothing special, they worked to charge our devices, I was also able to plug my curling iron into not. Not a hair dryer tho.

Bought it for the trip to South Africa and Botswana and it worked great. the 2 inputs were very good for charging more than one device at a time. I can't rate the durability since I just bought it, but worked the entire duration of the trip . Versatility is limited because of the highly specific plugs in those countries. Very pleased with the purchase and pricing.

Worked reliably. Seemed like really good craftsmanship. No complaints. The extra two prong outlet came in handy for USB chargers.

The Brits and their former colonies have the most awkward electrical plugs on the planet. Big, clunky, hard to pack. And they're not even all the same. The Great Britain plug won't work in Africa or (I believe) India. So pay attention before you travel. Before going to southern Africa, I bought this adapter and another with the same overall design (3 round pins), but smaller dimensions. This is the one that worked in South Africa and Namibia. I never found a receptacle that fit the smaller adapter; my guess is that is works in India, or maybe Kenya - somewhere I have never been (yet). Anyway, this is the one you need in South Africa or Namibia. Get it.

These work well as a single plug in. The option for plugging a second device into each plug is a bit tricky to use. Overall, I find that they work well. Remember to confirm that your device can manage 220 volts. These adapters do not reduce the voltage. If your device can only tolerate 110 volts, then don’t use them in South Africa without buying a step down transformer.

These are just great. Solid construction and they fit well in the SA sockets. LED power indicator. Cheerful colours. Two US sockets - an earthed one on the front, and a second 2-pin one on the bottom for a phone charger etc. And no unnecessary bulk or blobs or wings, they're about as compact as possible.
