Review: Large and cold, but not deep. - My model is the 1.6 cubic feet fridge. The refrigerator can cram a surprising number of things inside, but there are some substantial caveats to that. As is easily seen from the pictures, the fridge has an upside-down L shape volume, i.e. the back side is a raised shelf. This is unfortunate in many ways, because * You cannot fit a full gallon of milk anywhere (as far as I can tell at least) * Anything plate-sized is a challenge to fit in the fridge. Obviously it must go on the back shelf, but by itself there is a chance it'll topple off balance because the shelf is barely deep enough to hold the plate. The included rack or a short object in front would of course solve this issue, but then there's no room for tall objects like half gallon milk jugs. * Certain fatter objects (but not as fat as a gallon of milk) will prevent the door from closing if there is also a large-ish object in the door shelf (the rod that you can see holding the 2 L soda in the desertcart image rotates to accomodate space). There is a reason why all of the desertcart images are shot at a low angle, so it's hard to see how deep the front space isn't. Other customer images demonstrate that the bottom shelf is like 2.5 cans of soda deep when the door rod is swung out (interesting unit to measure things...). Thus, don't expect to fit a pizza in here. Most takeout containers are small enough to cram into various spots in the fridge, but it's not guaranteed (especially pasta containers). I considered doing a systematic study of the temperature gradient in the fridge at different settings, but I found that the temperature didn't change much between the pseudo-freezer compartment in the top right and the opposite corner in the door (that is, the entire fridge is fairly even in temperature). Thus, I leave my fridge in the middle cold setting. At this setting, milk sitting in the door will not spoil faster than expected, and things directly under the pseudo-freezer will experience some light freezing sometimes. The pseudo-freezer itself is not much colder - you can freeze water in here, but I would not recommend storing ice cream. As for other aspects of the fridge - it's compact, quiet, and easy to clean. In the beginning it might seem loud, but that's because it's starting up for the first time at room temperature. Note that you should leave the fridge open for an hour before plugging it in to get rid of the smell - after that it's odorless.
Review: A Perfect Mini Fridge for Personal Use - I'm really happy with the Midea WHS-65LB1 Compact Refrigerator. It's the perfect size for personal use, whether in an office or a dorm room. The 1.6 cubic feet of storage holds plenty of drinks and snacks without taking up much space. The reversible door is a great feature for fitting it into any corner. It runs quietly and keeps everything consistently cold. A great value for a reliable and functional mini-fridge.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does it make ice? and is it cold enough for frozen dinners in the freezer?**
A: Immediate answers:
"Does it make ice?" The freezer section of all listed models is cold enough to freeze ice. I think they even include a tiny ice cube tray!
"Is it cold enough for frozen dinners?" It should be. Scroll down for the technical explanation.

You asked your question against the single-door refrigerator, so I'll explain that one first.
These units have an "evaporator chiller" - a classic design that's been used for decades.
The "freezer" is formed by the evaporator coil (the part responsible for actually making the refrigerator cold) being curled into a U-shape, with a little plastic door on the front to keep cold air in.
When running, this chamber can reach temperatures as low as -11C/12F - the boiling point of the isobutane refrigerant used in these modern units.
This is cold enough to freeze most things that you'd want frozen.
The problem, however, is that this is not a "real" freezer, and the temperature will slowly rise as long as the fridge is not running - that door is nowhere near insulated.
If your fridge is running occasionally, as it should, you should be able to store any reasonably frozen goods in there that'll fit - your frozen dinners, for example, or an ice tray. My aging Kenmore was able to keep a gel ice pack frozen in there.
Just remember that there's no temperature control for this area - it's just going to be as cold as it's going to be, and you get what you get.

Now if you actually intended to ask your question against the DOUBLE door unit, then the entire situation changes.
These units are designed such that the refrigerant must be able to travel through the freezer's evaporator coil before it can cool the refrigerator (where the thermostat lives).
This happens at the above mentioned boiling point of 12F/-11C. Which means the freezer always chills to this temperature (no you cannot change it) - more than cold enough for ice, frozen dinners, novelty bars, and ice cream (if you don't mind the 'cream' part being optional - HARD AS A ROCK!).
I hope this is useful to both you, and shoppers looking at any of the fridges listed on this page.

**Q: Is it loud?**
A: No, this product is not loud.

**Q: How large (cu ft) is the freezer compartment?**
A: 11" wide, 12" deep, 5" high.

**Q: Can you adjust the thermostat so it is only a freezer?**
A: No. In fact the freezer feature does not work well.

Had this for over 3 1/2 years and it still works great it does ice up a bit for the freezer portion but other than that it’s completely fine.
