It's expensive, but there is nothing that even comes close to explaining traditional power market theory, the difference between types of markets, and new technology implications all tied together and with examples from as recent as 2020. For anyone aspiring to get into electricity, I suggest buying and reading this and rereading it. And then asking people questions about the parts you find interesting. Right now. This will beat almost any course in college if you want to get INTO the industry. For anyone in electricity, I suggest buying it and using the appendix to seek out simple explanations on topics that might be too complex for you. Had the book a weird an paraphrased several paragraphs to explain concepts I've been using 2000 words to explain. Then you go to the footnotes of that section for even MORE detailed papers that are useful beyond even mid career professionals. The book is an incredible comprehensive resource on almost every electricity market and operations. It's up to date with the old regime, middle of the energy transition (now) and some forward discussions. I'm very glad this was written. It's neither too 'pie in the sky' renewables or too 'pessimistic' there's no way this could work. It simple explains how things works (market theory) and discusses the challenges with that, from many peoples (load, generators, ISOs) perspectives Kudos to the authors. I have never considered a textbook over $100 worth the money, but this one is, 5/5. I just wish I could have gotten a signed copy

No vfm for the hard cover version
I bought the hardcover edition and honestly for such a cost (379 Euro) I expected the illustrations to be coloured which was not the case - should have bought the paperback version for 20% of this price! It is a handbook for heavens sake and not just any other story book!

Great Reference on Power Markets
The collection of readings in the book provides a great foundation on how electricity markets have evolved through the years and prevents the practitioner from wasting time on rehashing ideas that have been examined before.
