Gun Tool Max

Update to my initial review below: As I said on my last update, Real Avid customer service contacted me within 30 minutes of my notifying them of the defect in the purchased Gun Max Tool. They informed me they would be sending out a new tool, which I received today. This tool is perfect and works flawlessly. The tool bits have already been put to the test and found to be sturdy and the magnetic holder is strong enough to hold in any inserted bits. I am not only pleased with the tool, but could not be more satisfied with Real Avid's excellent customer service. That kind of service is sincerely appreciated. I received my Real Avid Gun Tool Max yesterday and because I was working on a small project, I thought I would put it to the test immediately. I wanted to try out the use of the small flat head screwdriver bit using the tool at a right angle for better torque. I already read that the magnet to hold in the bits was a little weak, but when I pulled out the torque bit I did not expect to find the entire magnet assembly holding he bits in place would come out as well. Without this, there is nothing to hold the bits in place. It was a bit difficult and tedious to replace the assembly and would not only be difficult (if not impossible) to do this in the field, but the magnet could easily be lost if not careful. This was a real disappointment because the design of this ability to use any choice of bits at the right angle is really good. If it weren’t for the rest of the included tools, I would not have bought this tool. (See attached photos). I want to update my review as I sent a message to Real Avid using the Contact form on their website today describing my problem. Literally within 30 minutes, I had a response from them to let me know they would be sending me a new tool. This is really impressive and if the magnet works, I will be very satisfied with this tool. However, the response alone is enough to increase the rating.

This is the kind of multitool where you expect at least one or two components to feel like an afterthought, and that's just not the case here — every single one of the 37 tools feels like it was actually engineered instead of thrown in to pad the spec sheet. The knife blade holds a real edge and cuts clean out of the box, no rough tumbled-steel feel some multitool blades have. The bit driver and hex/torx set are properly hardened, no rounding out or camming on stubborn screws the way cheaper driver bits do, and the punches are solid enough to actually drive out pins without bending or mushrooming at the tip. Sturdiness carries through the whole tool, not just the marquee features — the pliers jaw has zero play in the pivot, the wrenches grip true without slipping off a nut, even the smaller add-ons like the sight tool and bore brush adapter feel like they'll hold up to real use instead of snapping the first time they see resistance. The pocket clip is solid too, tensioned enough to actually stay put on a belt or range bag without working itself loose over a day of carry. Ease of use is straightforward, tools deploy smoothly without excess play once open and lock in place with a solid, confident detent instead of a mushy half-lock. For the number of legitimately useful gun-specific tools packed into one body, and the fact that none of them feel like filler, this is a serious value over buying separate tools piecemeal.

High quality, well built and sturdy. It is heavy enough to make me tighten my belt an extra hole while I wear it but I have yet to regret carrying it everywhere. Frankly it has saved me money on other tools since it's tools are sturdy enough to use properly unlike some other multitools. From days on the range, minor car maintinence, even gardening this thing has you covered.

Love the tool, it's been great using. Seems quality and really like the company. The molle pouch button came off on the snap side second time using it so QC seems off on that. Otherwise good purchase. UPDATE: Best customer service ever. Contacted directly and they promptly send a replacement pouch. A+++ I will be buying more stuff from these guys.

This is about as complete a tool set that you can have with you for your range bag and it doesn’t take up much space. It has capabilities I’m pretty sure I’ll never use, but good to know they are there just in case. I especially like the ability to lock the driver bit straight or 90 degrees for more torque if needed. Nice feature.

Great product and delivered fast.

It is a solid multitool. The only problem is have with this is that the screw driver magnetic is very wobbly. I tried shaking it really hard. And the bit fell out. It feels like it can break easy. The mollen case is very cheap. It is hard to close it when I put the mutlitool inside of the mollen case.

I always carried half a dozen tools in my range bag as something always seems to need adjusting at the worst times. This thing has everything especially in both metric and hex. I shoot a lot of old guns as I collect war guns. They were not designed for comfort or with today's ease of operation. They had a captive audience who only needed them to perform in all kinds of weather. It got so bad that I stopped shooting a collection of Lugers. With this tool - easy to get apart and do whatever adjustments are necessary on the fly. All I carry in my bag now is this tool and a copper rod. A must have if you spend a lot of time at the range.
