Product description Add thrilling low-frequency effects to your home cinema experience! The Dayton Audio SUB series-powered subwoofer systems are the perfect addition to any home theater system. These powered subs feature a bottom-firing, flared port, bass-reflex design for reduced port noise and increased bass response. They also utilize a long-throw woofer to produce house-shaking power. The amplifier features high and low-level inputs and high-level outputs, a phase switch, independent volume control, an auto on/off switch (activated by an input signal) and a variable 12 dB electronic low pass filter. These compact subs are finished in an unobtrusive black vinyl that will complement any decor. Onboard connectivity makes this an easy-to-add and easy-to-adjust solution 1. Line Level Inputs The line level inputs are used to connect pre-put or preamplifier outputs directly to the subwoofer amplifier's internal crossover. These inputs are summed to mono. This is the preferred way to connect the subwoofer amplifier. If you have a mono line level signal from a "Pro-Logic" or "Dolby Digital" receiver use the right "red" input. Note: If a LFE mono output is connected, set the crossover point to maximum. 2. High Level Inputs If preamplifier outputs are not available, use the high-level (speaker) inputs. The speaker level inputs can be connected directly to the amplifier by inserting the speaker wire. 3. High Level Outputs There are also high level outputs which can be used to connect to main speakers or to another powered subwoofer with high level inputs. Note: High level outputs are paralleled to the high level inputs with no high pass filter. 4. Crossover Frequency Control Continuously variable from 40 Hz at 12 dB/octave. Set the frequency control to where the audio does not sound "muddy", normally between 60-80 Hz. Note: If a LFE mono output is connected set the crossover point to maximum. 5. Gain Control Adjusts the output level of the subwoofer. Set the level to where the bass frequencies blend with the other speakers. Note: Most people have a tendency to set the level too high, which makes the audio sound "boomy". 6. Phase Switch Selectable between 0° and 180°. This assists subwoofer placement. The correct position will be the one that provides the most apparent bass output. 7. Power Switch (Auto On/Off) When the power is in the auto position, the amplifier will automatically turn on when a signal is present. Note: In auto/off mode, the power on LED is always on (red), even when amp is in rest mode (off). The power LED will turn green when the unit is activated. Review: Buy this one...it is absolutely terrific. - Just unboxed and set up this BEAST. I am a total bass junkie...I gotta feel it, hear it, and not miss a single note. UNBOXING: - Dayton Audio, A+. Double boxed, barely no instructions, lots of foam, and care in packaging. - No Prime 2-day delivery. Parts Express always seems to charge too much for shipping. - Took the grill off and looked at woofer...holy moses, that is one beast of a subwoofer (thick surround, high excursion) SET-UP: - Easy peasey hook up. I am using my Harman/Kardon 3590 subwoofer RCA outputs (low level) Works perfectly. - Adjustments for volume and freq are very good. I was worried about the crossover not being parametric (dB drop off stuff). It is very high quality - The speaker hi and lo level connections are TOO SMALL - Placement - Looks great just about everywhere. SOUND: - I have a normal sized living room. This sub fills it with total ease. - I like having stuff hanging on the walls (pictures, clocks, wall hangings). However, this sub does NOT like them and will shake them off. - The bass is incredible, the quality spectacular, detail is there, EVERY note is there. - How loud will it go? Well, I cranked it up out of the box, everything in the house in every room shook. I "felt" every low freq note with a physical internal vibrato. Almost brain rattling in a way. For $128...you get A LOT of high quality bass and it will crack drywall, plaster, and make things fall off the wall - Absolutely no "huff and puff", no internal rattles, no weird air sounds like so many other subs. Just pure, clean low-low-low grunt, growling bass. CONCLUSION: - Best $128 I ever spent to round out my home entertainment center. This 10" powered sub with 100w is MORE than enough for about 99% of purchasers. It has the power, sound, and quality of a sub costing 3x as much. I am 47 and have heard some highly exotic stuff in my time. This Dayton Audio sub will "hit" and sounds excellent. Thank you Dayton Audio for making a great sub... UPDATE (6 Sep 2016) - I just "leave it on"...forget about setting the power switch to "Auto". No big deal. As for performance/sound...still amazed. One strange thing thought, my 9-year old large black male cat will lay in front of it and chill out. He loves the rumble or something. Did Dayton Audio infuse the subwoofer with catnip? I am ordering a second one for the bedroom. UPDATE (3 Jan 2017) - The sub is still in the same spot, however I laid it on it's side. The bottom of the sub is where the firing port is. Now (with it on it's side) the port is blowing off to the side. Neat trick! Played a movie today with lots of low frequencies and it really helped increase the experience. The "Auto" On still sucks...so, I leave it on. And lastly, if you use the speaker-level binding posts...they suck. Too small...already broke one messing around. Thankfully I don't use them. The speaker-level binding posts on my Polkaudio PSW10 sub are much better...and that sub has a front firing bass port. If I had to compare the two, the Dayton Audio has a better amplifier, speaker, and "overall" sound. However, the Polk does really well and sounds more natural...esp with the front firing port. It doesn't go quite as low as the Dayton Audio...but, it has a more "natural" low end response and feel. Think of it this way...each has about the same horsepower, but the Dayton Audio has more torque...and torque is king. Yet, the Polk has some class of it's own. UPDATE (May 1, 2018) - It's been a while running this monster. Still LOVE it. Since January, 2017's update, bought a SECOND one for my Vizio soundbar/HDTV system in the bedroom. It has Bluetooth and I paired with my desertcart Echo...the sound is AMAZING! Love this Dayton Audio 10" sub. Now, here is the kicker: I just upgraded my shop stereo system with a brand new Yamaha 5.1 Bluetooth receiver. The sound is crystal clear and the sound of the Dayton Audio is beastly. Garage acoustics are terrible...but was able to get really great sound and enough bass to rattle everything.
Review: Very good, compact subwoofer - The speaker is as described. It was well packed and I had no problems with delivery. It sounds great and is a good match for my bookshelf Elac speakers (DB52). I set the crossover at the highest setting, suspecting that the Elac speakers might begin to lose a dB or two starting close to 100 Hz. The subwoofer is NOT boomy. Be sure to get the proper cable to connect with your receiver. This is a good buy for the price.

**Q: If this will 95% be used to listen to music (mostly jazz and improv music like the grateful dead) should I go with the 10" or the 12"?**
A: I have the SUB-1000 paired with Micca MB42X speakers and it provides plenty of base when I listen to my 80's rock music.

**Q: Is it worth the extra money for the 1000 instead of the 800?**
A: I would have to say, yes. The 800 is very nice but you get more sound with the 1000. Being 100watt over 80 watt gives you more power and 10 inch over 8 inch has more thump. The 1000 is more powerful all around. Smart buy over 800.

**Q: Anyone connect this to the dayton audio dta-120 with bookshelf speakers?**
A: I used the MB42X Bookshelf Speakers With 4-Inch Carbon Fiber Woofer and Silk Dome Tweeter (Black, Pair)MB42X Bookshelf Speakers With 4-Inch Carbon Fiber Woofer and Silk Dome Tweeter (Black, Pair) and hooked them all to my Onkyo amplifier...  SOUNDS AMAZING!

**Q: Will this Sub work for replacing a Passive Sub on a Samsung Home System?**
A: The only way this might work is to run the line to the passive sub into one of the speaker level inputs. Do not run the other speakers through the sub; the bass is already routed to the passive sub in your system.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow! Great budget sub.

I got this sub to go with a pair of Kanto YU4's that I use for near field listening on my desk while working. I previously used an Edifier T5, which is a great budget sub, but had an annoying tendency to go into sleep mode if I didn't have the volume set at a fairly high level. I really just wanted something comparable to the T5 that wasn't prone to dozing off every few minutes at low volumes. Like any subwoofer, it took a few hours of breaking in, some fiddling with dials, and positioning to finally dial it in. The sweet spot for me is to have the crossover set to about 80Hz, which is about 20Hz above the bottom-end for the YU4, the volume is set at dead center, I tried both 0 and 180 degrees on the Phase switch, but both settings sound the same to me. Even though the line input has a "mono" setting, don't make the mistake I did and connect only one cable from the speaker's sub-out to the sub, use a Y-splitter, otherwise you lose a lot of volume, mono is only for receivers that have a dedicated digital mono output. This sub produces a nice, clean, tight bass. I could push it way higher on the volume, but for desktop listening while working, I don't want or need ground shaking bass, just the bottom end filled in, which it does perfectly. Compared to the T5 I would say it's comparable, but it requires less effort to get to the same level of output, which makes sense considering it's10 inches vs. 8 and in a larger cabinet. Build quality is solid and understated, though not quite as solid feeling as the T5, it doesn't feel "cheap" at all. My one complaint though is with the plastic feet. They slide around on my tiled floor really easily, almost like it's on skates. I easily solved the problem though by adding some stick-on rubber feet that I had lying around.
