How does my vehicle’s AC system work?

The AC compressor pressurizes refrigerant gas, which moves to the condenser. The gas releases heat, condensing into a high-pressure liquid. After cooling, the liquid passes over evaporator coils to cool the air as it is blown through the vents.

What are the signs the system needs service?

Common indicators of an air conditioning system in need of service include warm and/or weak airflow through the vents, frequent on/off cycling of the system and a strange or musty odor.

Is the puddle of water under my car a sign of AC problems?

Not necessarily. Condensation typically builds up on the AC evaporator and the water is drained at the bottom of the vehicle. That’s normal, but a larger puddle combined with reduced AC performance could indicate a problem.

Does low refrigerant mean there’s a leak in the system?

In most cases the answer is yes. AC systems in older cars will experience refrigerant leakage over time, but a later-model vehicle that needs continual refrigerant recharging typically indicates a leak.

Can a new cabin air filter improve AC performance?

Yes. A very dirty or clogged cabin air filter can reduce the airflow of the AC system, reducing its cooling efficiency and making the system work harder than normal. Periodic cabin filter replacements help the AC system keep its cool.

Replaced this in my 2016 GMC Savana as it was plugged. Located right at the evaporator piping entrance. Symptoms were: AC worked when you were moving but when you stopped, most dumped out on a high pressure relief. Very little refrigerant was left over so AC never started. No existing leaks plus condensor and evaporator were spotless. Replaced the o-ring to part# 13579648 Pressure test with nitrogen after replacing; 100lbs for 30 min and evacuate for 30 min. Weigh in charge of R134a. AC is ice cold now!

I have not installed yet, but is the same size and dimensions as the existing one. It was shipped fast and very affordable. Glad the fit was so easy and no issues.

The size of this was smaller than I imagined. But it does work well and helped my older Tahoe's AC system. Someone had put stop leak in it at some point, and that all coagulated on the screen of this part. Swapping it out seems to have helped. But keep in mind you absolutely must vacuum pull the system first before installing this.
