The poker that comes with the pit is perfect because you can use it to lift out ash pan in the bottom, the two prongs will fit through two of the holes in the center of the bottom and you can lift out your ash without having to get your hands dirty, which is nice. The grill works well too. The legs lock in place, and I have mine sitting on a wooden deck, the pit is elevated just enough to keep the deck from getting burned, but i did buy a round fire mat after a couple uses, just in case. I love how efficiently this thing burns wood!!! Alot of times I dont use the ring that goes on top because it just gets in the way of loading wood and stoking the fire. The storage/transport cover is nice too! The inside will rust a little but who cares, its a fire pit, it aint meant to look like a shiny nickel.
