Why am I not getting 5Gbps speeds?

Full 5Gbps needs every part of the chain to support 5GbE: a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port, a 5GbE router/switch/NAS, and a CAT6a+ cable. If any link is slower, the adapter auto-negotiates down. Also confirm your source can deliver 5Gbps.

Why is my connection limited to 2.5Gbps or lower?

The usual cause is a USB 3.0 / 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) port — after USB overhead, real speed lands near 2.5Gbps. Use a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, confirm your switch and cable (CAT6a+) support 5GbE, and on Windows run Windows Update for the latest Realtek driver.

Does this work with all USB-C devices?

It works with data-capable USB-C ports (USB 3.x, USB4, or Thunderbolt 3/4). It will NOT work on power-only / charge-only ports. Support on phones and tablets varies; it's built for Windows, macOS, and Linux computers.

Do I need to install drivers?

Windows 10/11 and macOS are driver-free. If Windows is slow right after plugging in, run Windows Update for the latest Realtek driver. Linux uses a recent Realtek r8157 kernel driver. Newest drivers are on Sabrent.com.

Why is my adapter warm?

Warmth is normal — the aluminum body acts as a heatsink and multi-gig adapters run warm during sustained transfers. Keep it in open air for long, heavy workloads; performance is unaffected.
