Time clocks. I love time clocks. I love clocks. I love time. Sometimes I don’t even love time, but I still like clocks. This one showed up and my weekend had a purpose. I looked at the box. Cards. Ink ribbon. A little rack. A battery. So much stuff in one box, it felt like Christmas, or Arbor Day, or at least National Time Card Day, which I’m still lobbying for, by the way. Unpacked everything. So many time cards. One hundred and fifty. Enough to start my own tiny town, clock everyone in, clock everyone out, and then fire them just for fun. I stared at the ink ribbon for a while, wondered if I could use it for art, decided against it, and loaded it into the machine. The punch clock went right on the wall. No WiFi. No apps. No screens glaring at me, judging my snack breaks. Just a good old-fashioned punch. Ka-chunk. Felt it in my bones. Felt it in my soul.
