It Broke My Computer!
As soon as I connected a FireWire disk drive to my computer’s USB port using this adapter, my computer crashed and wouldn’t even try to reboot until it was disconnected. And once it restarted, the USB port was dead. This item is worse than awful - would give it a zero if I could.

Did Not Work. Caused a Power Surge. Customer Service, though, is Excellent
I may have received a defective unit or my older external drive isn't compatible, but I plugged this into both a modern Mac and PC and it caused a power surge in both situations. The monitor for the Mac went dark and the PC popped up a red power surge warning. Luckily, there was no damage. Can't recommend. Update: Herfair reached out to me and gave me a full refund. While I can not retract my experience with that exact product, the company's customer service was outstanding. That means something these days and I will certainly keep them in mind for any future needs.

Failed
I started with a working connection between a 6-pin Firewire jack on my computer & an old DVR. I plugged the new adapter cable into a working USB 2.0 jack on the same computer & connected my 6-pin Firewire cable into the 6-pin socket of the adapter cable. The computer immediately reported a failure. Disconnecting my cable from the adapter & reconnecting it to my Firewire port re-established the connection. Using one of the computer's USB 3.0 ports yielded the same result.

Didn't work for me
Bought this to connect an older Lacie Porsche external drive to a MacMini M4. Locked up system after using cable to connect the drive. Seems well made but didn't work in my situation.

Board killer
Don't buy it! It burned the motherboard of a microfilm machine. O.S. shows "USB short"

Not TOO fast, but works with my DVI camera for playback / capture
I looked for this for a while B4 finding it. It works well and allows me to capture my old DVI tapes.

Lifesaver for My Old Verbatim Drive – Plug and Go!
If you’ve got an older device with a 6-pin FireWire connector, like my Verbatim drive, this Herfair adapter could be the answer to bringing it back to life. It connects easily without needing any extra software, which is a huge plus. Just plug in and start accessing your files! However, one downside is that it doesn’t capture DV videos, so it’s not great for video transfers from old camcorders. It’s straightforward for basic data retrieval, though, which made saving my files totally worth it. All in all, a solid adapter for connecting legacy devices to USB without the hassle. I used it on to recover old files and I highly recommend it. + No software needed + Easy plug-in + Supports 6-pin devices + Saved my data Hope this was helpful!

No good for Mac laptop
Doesn't work for me. Wattage for firewire different than USB so computer wouldn't recognize it. Maybe would work with another computer than my Mac laptop.
