The Beast.
I wrote this long review because I really like this trimmer or I wound not waste my time, even though at 75 I have plenty of it. First of all this trimmer is heavy, it don't feel heavy holding it but using it as a tool it is a different matter. Having the motor at the top gives this tool pretty good balance and keeps the motor out of the dirt for long life unlike the cheaper trimmers. Seeing this tool in person you can see real quick that it is well built. Time will tell about the quality of the bearings and gears at the trimmer head. Since it has is a split shaft, if the trimmer end does fail, at least that accessory can be swapped out and motor end still kept and used with the new accessory. Lots of warnings in the owners manual to keep the American Feds happy but little else. It shows the string head disassembled but not how to do it. Here is how for the first time user. Looking at the bottom where the bump feed button is there are 10 slots in a circle--4 slots and then a wider slot, then 4 more slots and a wider slot. The two wide slots are opposite of each other and contain the release tabs. Pry each with a knife or a small common screw driver as you pull the two halves apart exposing the string compartment. I used the trimmer twice now, the motor is very powerful, maybe to powerful for small yard jobs. I "didn't" find that the original head wasted string at all, only bumped a few times for front yard which is going around shrubs and trees and then doing flower bed edging work at an angle. If you hold the trimmer at the proper angle the debris won't fly back at you as so many people worried about. After a very uncomfortable usage of this fine tool the first time I realized something had to change. Since the switch combination was not designed properly for easy usage like on my B&D hedge trimmer where the power switch keeps the lock out switch engaged until the power switch is released. I dealt with the lock out switch on top of the handle by defeating it with a Tye Wrap strap which then holds the switch permanently down--a 30 second fix. The trigger switch for power is rather hard to keep pulled, perhaps intentionally but I believe to much so for a long working day. Activating the trigger makes a sound like a micro-switch is being activated under the plastic trigger. That will be an interesting fix for another day. At least the trimmer is now usable for me. I dealt with far more dangerous things then this little trimmer for those appalled at defeating a safety device. That said I would not defeat any safety for a chain saw or hedge trimmer. I am using my emergency generator 15 amp service extension cords for this trimmer because it pulls some serious amps. Just because it seems to operate normal with a regular 16 gauge extension cord, especially a 100 foot one, it is not! Think of it like using a 16 gauge extension cord for a window air conditioner--you don't do that either. Since using the trimmer the first time I have purchased and installed the Echo Speed-Feed 400 string head. It is a direct replacement with no adapters needed. The 400 and the string inside seem very good after using it today. To sum up, this trimmer is a heavy duty tool that can wear you out if not physically fit. It wore me out but I still like it and recommend it

excellent if use 3rd party trimmer head
This trimmer does have very serious issues, as reported by the negative reviews. The problem is that all the electric trimmers are quite poor, according to the reviews. The greenworks does have plenty of power, which makes it well worth the price by itself. The main issue is the trimmer head which does not release line and it very frequently sucks the line back through the hole so you have to restring. You have to pull both ends of line while pushing the center bumphead button and it will take many attempts for each successful release of line. I became very skilled at restringing, even with poor instructions, but it is still inconvenient to spend 90% of your time restringing or struggling to pull out some line so you can do a little more trimming. I followed one reviewer's advice to have Greenworks send out a replacement trimmer head. It seemed to be a little better but still awful. My old Ryobi bumpfeed, which finally wore out, had the same problem but nowhere near as bad. This is a one star trimmer, basically unusable without modification. I saw two 3rd party trimmer heads being used with this greenworks in the greenworks reviews or trimmer head reviews. I tried the pivotrim pro, since one guy said he couldn't get the tanaka 32308 to fit (it may be more difficult even after you remove the shaft extension). This trimmer becomes five stars with the commercial trimmer head. It has plenty of power for any 3rd party trimmer heads, which are usually only used on gas trimmers. I only used two looped lines on the pivotrim, which seemed to be plenty, instead of all four. It cuts close to the ground, too. It is industrial power and more dangerous as some reviewers have mentioned. You should have goggles (a face shield would be better), long pants, shirt, covered shoes, and hearing protection. Cover your glass doors and windows, too, if you have small rocks or gravel in your yard. It rips through dirt and rocks and will shatter glass. It cuts through bunch grass with little problem, though the pivotrim will break line right at the loop sometimes when it gets really tough. It is also a little harder to handle because of the power. If, like me, you do have a problem with the greenworks trimmer head, try a 3rd party trimmer head on the greenworks trimmer. If your current trimmer just has a worn out trimmer head you might be able to just replace it without buying a whole new trimmer. You can always buy the greenworks trimmer later or the 3rd party trimmer head later if either doesn't fit or work. Greenworks does not recommend that you use a 3rd party trimmer head. They also say you should not use size 95 line, even though it says 80 or 95 right on the original trimmer head. I think it will actually take 65 line, too, if that's all you have. Use the pivotrim method 4: 1. remove the spool 2. rotate the shaft and cylinder until the cylinder hole lines up with the hole in the nonrotating core inside 3. put a screwdriver or metal rod through the hole to lock the shaft extension 4. turn the shaft extension nut clockwise with a socket wrench or regular wrench (it should come off fairly easily) 5. one of the included pivotrim nuts threads easily onto the threaded base shaft You'll want to get the thickest, 105, and highest quality line that still fits for the pivotrim. The orange precut hex line breaks at the loop almost instantly because it is too cheap. My 105 round line barely fit through the loop holes so 105 hex edge line may or may not fit. The greenworks does have other issues I can live with. The trigger is very hard to keep pressed, as mentioned by others, and you have to keep it pressed all the way down. I put one finger over another finger but I still have to rest my finger after a few minutes. The trimmer itself is heavy but not enough to be a real problem. This could be a serious drawback for someone of below average size and strength, though. The main trimmer shaft did pop out on me once, but was fine after putting it back in the hole again. The cord retainer only works on very small gauge extension cords. It is functional if you push the looped cord through the front and loop it back around, but you are much better off just tying the connection with an overhand knot the same as securing two extension cords together. This is probably the only viable electric trimmer. I highly recommend it when used with an upgrade trimmer head. 12 Jan 2016 Update: When my pivotrim pro broke down to almost nothing left I replaced it with a Tanaka 32308 trimmer head. It installs easy enough, especially if you are just switching between a pivotrim and a Tanaka, but the Tanaka with two string ends doesn't have near the power of the pivotrim with two double string ends, which you will need for tall tough grass. You can bypass the hard to press button problem with a velcro strap. I bought the 8 inch velcro cable ties from Swiss Precision to cinch down the button below and trigger on top before use. It's a little bit of a pain but a lot less pain than resting your fingers between runs.

Powerful, Fast Trimmer but not for everyone
This is a good, very powerful trimmer. I love the power, shape, balance, and build quality, but there are some issues. 1. The safety trigger is very awkward. I know this is required by law, but the way it is implemented makes it very difficult to use especially when you are using the trimmer upside down to trim on the edge of a sidewalk. It would make my hand very tired. I believe in altering my tools to work for me the way I want so I solved this problem by disabling the safety switch so that now you just need to pull the trigger. This adjustment wasn't difficult but is not for everyone. 2. The trimming head is fairly painful to load with trimmer line and the feeding system is flawed. I updated the head with a professional universal echo speed feed head and it had vastly improved the head. 3. The trimmer is quite heavy and very powerful. This means it will not work as well for smaller individuals. The trimmer comes with a shoulder strap, but it was awkward to use especially while flipping the trimmer upside down for edging. For this reason, I removed the strap from the beginning. 4. Trimmer line breaks easily on this machine due to the speed and power. Purchase good quality line as thick as your trimmer head can support and you will have a better experience. 5. It is corded, which many will not like. The cord doesn't bother me though because it is so powerful and never runs out of power. I have tried multiple battery powered trimmers and none have matched this trimmers power and they won't finish my entire yard without charging. I know this sounds like there are many negatives, but this is outright, one of the most powerful electric trimmers you can buy and it is reasonably affordable. After the alterations I made, I love this trimmer and I am able to complete my yard quickly and professionally.

To sum it up QUIT looking and hit buy now!!!!! You will not regret it!!!!!
I'm sorry this will only be as short as they make me be but, I guarantee it will be SWEET!! This part I will make short I had a back injury and only was able to keep up the front yard. The back yard went horribley wrong after 3 months I have grass so thick it would make Fabio look bald. So in 3 months it was 1 - 3 feet depending on the area if the yard. I knew the only way I was going to conquer this beast was with a weed eater. I go on Amazon and the search begins with dozens to choose from and I do not want to spend a lot of money on a necessity duh I would rather spend the big bucks on stuff I don't really need!! Lol I am scrolling through each one noticing with the ones 60 and under corded of course because they are cheapest and reliable. I am noticing that all of the seem to be made for someone 4' or shorter and with back issues already I was not looking to bend over for 6 hours!! Then on top of that I had my choices of 3 - 4 amp I mean I'm not trying to power one of those kid cars I am trying to cut some scary grass that was out of control!! Then I come across this Greenworks weed eater and I look it up and it is on top 5 best corded weed eaters on the market I believe it was 3rd on the list so I looked up the top 2 and was not impressed. I go back to Amazon and check it out again 1. It's long and no bending over 2. This bad boy has a 10 amp powering it 3. It has a detachable head and I can buy other attachments to do other jobs 4. It has a 4 year warranty and 5. Most important it's only 55.00!!!!!! I who priced this monster?!?!?!? I see all kinds of junk on the web for outrageous prices and they are all crap and here we have the weed eater to make all other weed eaters bow at it's feet and it's priced like a Wal-Mart POS that you bring home and take back the next day because it was as lousy as you knew it would be but, you just couldn't resist how cheap it was!!!! HaHa!! Well anyway so I go to the reviews and the majority are very good but, of course there are those that when you read them had some legitimate complaints and then I start looking at the dates and they are all over 2017 or older. I'm thinking to myself Greenworks had to have read the gripes took notice and fixed them all. Right? Because all manufacturers realize the customers using the product know best and want to make it the best ever!! Then I wake up and realize this is a 5' weed eater, 10 amp, 4 year warranty under 60.00 bucks and come out of my fantasy and reality slaps me in my face saying "we have been here done this and it is always to good to be true" so I hit buy now!!!! So of course because Amazon is the baddest MF on Earth I got it the next day being a prime member (best money I have ever spent) and it arrived in the morning on Sunday so I got it out and put it together and went outside to check it out. I was leaving out of town for work that day and would be gone for a week but, I wanted to try it before I left. I went out back and starting cutting I was very impressed but, did not like the line it came with. I fortunately paid attention to the reviews and caught on others did not like it either so I had ordered the line that Amazon said most people bought when buying this weed eater. Problem was it was not coming until Thursday because it was not being shipped from Amazon and no big deal because I am out of town for a week. Friday comes and I get home late evening so visit with the family and then off to bed as I want to be up early and beat the sun I live in Texas and although it's September it's still getting to 100 and over. Well I get up at 5 have coffee and mill around until first light and I am out the door. I got the new line in the mail on Thursday but, I figured why not use what it came with first. Well that lasted all of about thirty minutes when by that time I had already had to remove the spool 3 times to get the line out so I said forget this and went to get the new line. I will add the very few and minor issues at the end so I get the new line and get it installed and I am off again. It is working beautifully shredding the grass with precision and perfection. I am going at it hard and realize I only have one line out of the double line it has so off with the spool and back at it and then one line again spool off and back at it then one line so I'm like c'mon man!! I take the spool off and examine it only to realize I have loaded one side backwards so every time I feed more line one side comes out whole the other side goes in!!!!! Now everything corrected I get after it again I am able to put in 2 hours before we have to leave and get some errands done. Fast forward to 5:30pm and I am geared up and back at it and this time I am able to put in 2 and 1/2 hours. I finally realized to take pictures and added them the pictures are take before I finished as I was able to get a lot more done but, it for dark so no pics of what I was able to accomplish in a 4 1/2 hour time span I will add those and the finished ones if I am able to. I have to say I am extremely satisfied with this product and will recommend it to anyone who will listen to me tell this story!!!!! Now the gripes which are meaningless in comparison to the products overall performance. 1. The instructions are horrible they tell you nothing so I will tell you now the small metal rod it comes with is what you use to take the head off to fix the line or use a different attachment 2. They do not show you how to separate the spool so to separate the spool and get to the line take a flat head screwdriver and push in on one of the 2 tabs located on either side of each other 3. I wish the padding on the shoulder strap was padded more because after awhile it the strap starts to dig in pretty good. That's it nothing else I can complain about it works very, very, very well!! GREAT JOB GREENWORKS for making a product that you can proudly stand behind because they actually listened to all those gripes and came back with a product that is freaking top shelf and worth much more than what they are asking for it so shhhhh don't tell them that!!

VERY HAPPY!
I ordered the 21142 (18"/10amp) model to replace an aging light-weight, single-line Toro trimmer that was just about burnt out. I wanted another electric trimmer, to avoid having to mess with gas and oil, but I also wanted a higher-powered model with the motor at the top end, to enable me to add third-party trim heads or other attachments. After watching some of the YouTube videos and reading both older and newer reviews, it was obvious that this trimmer has undergone numerous improvements, over time. With that in mind, I decided to purchase directly from Amazon (i.e. Ships from Amazon) to ensure sufficient inventory turnover, so I'd get one of the newer, improved models. (I bought mine in mid-April 2018. It arrived in a long, slim, printed BROWN cardboard container with no imagery). First impression ... this puppy is heavy and very robust! I am very impressed with the build quality. After assembly, I did a trial run to get myself acclimated to the feel and cut of a 2-line trimmer. I merely used my existing 100' 16-gauge extension cable. I wasn't running the unit continuously but in typical spurts around my lawn. The cable got only very slightly warm and the motor was running just fine, so I don't think I'll need a thicker cable for an average edging run, but I will monitor this during future trims. Time will tell, but I am very happy with my purchase. *** UPDATE 04/16/2018 *** Today, I used the trimmer to attack some weeds and long grass in the utility alley behind my house, as a longer test. I did behind my house, on either side of the driveway and for several houses on either side of me. It tore through everything, like butter, but my 100' 16/3 cable got barely warm. I will say the unit is heavy, so you really need to adjust the "assistant" (loop) handle for your height and balance. Being so powerful, it will take a bit of getting used to, but well worth it! *** UPDATE 04/22/18 *** After the supplied trim line run out, I decided to try the leftover .065 line for my old unit, just to save wasting it. The .065 line worked very well and did a great cut at high power. To assist me when edging, I put a piece of duct tape on the grass shield and simply line things up to the cement driveway, etc.

If you are looking for a corded trimmer this is the one.
I was looking for a battery powered trimmer(ryobi, as I already own a few batteries/chargers). During my research I came to the conclusion to go another route as to not deal with battery changes as I deal with tall weeds. I came to find this trimmer wile looking for an afordable gas trimmer. I saw the mixed reviews but the price cough my eye. It was on sale for 49.99. I saw the mixed reviews but at that price it could not be beat. What could go wrong. Having read the reviews before the trimmer got here I went to HD and bought a Pivotrim head even before the trimmer was delivered. Once delivered I decided to try the head that comes with this trimmer at least twice. Once with the line already installed and refilling it once. The included line was ok. But I was impressed at the power the trimmer had. The head had no jams until it was finished. The refilling of it was no worst than any other trimmer I had to refill. Using better line this thing started eating the weeds like it was nothing. Second time around no jams ether. The head might not be great but is not as bad as other reviewers say. As with any other head, wind it carefully and follow instructions and you won't have any troubles. So I had never tried the pivotrim. But what the heck. Let's try it. It was really easy to change. Let me tell you, this trimmer became a beast. I would say it helped me cut trimming times by 25% to 50%, I estimate. I'll never go back to line loading heads. The weight of the trimmer is good. Not supper heavy and having a shoulder strap is a nice addition. That might be my next upgrade as the strap is not super comfortable. But it will get the job done though. Now a lesson on trimmer wire. The pivotrim has a range of wire sizes you can use on it. If you choose the thicker wire it will be more durable but cut slower. If you go for the thinner, it will be faster but be less durable. I like to go fast specially with tall weeds. If I was dealing with grass I would go with durability. And with the easy of change of the pivotrim it is a no issue. The swivel action of the head will also some what protect the line. In conclusion I would and have recommended this trimmer to everyone looking for a corded trimmer. Even at the regular 79.99 price it is still relatively inexpensive and will get the job done even if you don't upgrade the head.

As powerful as a gas unit, some flaws, but overall very good (3.5 stars).
This trimmer works very well. It is every bit as powerful as a gasoline-powered trimmer. (I had two Ryobi's prior to this unit and got tired of dealing with the gas/maintenance of a gas-powered unit.) Negatives: 1. It's a bit heavy (although not as heavy as a gas unit). It weighs just over 2 pounds less than my Ryobi, but it doesn't feel any lighter. 2. The handle is held on with a screw that does not go through the bar. It's just clamped on via the screw so it can move. 3. The trim head that comes with it is terrible. Just throw it away and buy a Ryobi bump head. 4. There's no edger guide on it. It would be great if they had a trimmer guide so you could roll it along the edge of the curb or walkway to do the edging with the trimmer. (This is mitigated by the fact that you can put an edger on it...see positives) 5. The dual-trigger mechanism requires a reasonably significant amount of pressure to keep the head spinning. I find that after a few minutes, my hand gets tired and the trimmer shuts off until I consciously re-apply more pressure. Positives 1. It is every bit as powerful as a gas-powered unit. 2. Less noisy than a gas-powered unit (although I would still recommend wearing ear phones to protect from the noise. 3. Accepts all Ryobi attachments so you can use this thing with edger attachments, tree saw attachments, hedge trimmer, etc. (I owned a Ryobi prior to this and have a number of attachments.) Because you can put a Ryobi head on it, you can use the slightly thicker trim cords which just last a little longer. 4. Electric power is very convenient. I have a 100' long extension cord that I use on a 1/2 acre property and I have several outlets around my house so it's very convenient. 5. About half the price of a decent gas-powered unit. Overall, I would rate it 3.5 stars. I would buy this unit again vs. a gas unit. I would not buy a battery-powered unit because they are not as powerful and it's a hassle to charge them.

Best corded trimmer on the market currently.
OVERALL Most corded-electric weed-trimmers look cheap and poorly made and lacking a powerful motor. Some research brought me to this one and I'm quite satisfied. I've owned this model for a couple of years now. It was so good I bought one for my dad as well. Small suburban life means the cord isn't really a problem, and it's simpler than heavy batteries that go bad over time. I have a 14 gauge 50' cable; but with this 10A you could probably go to 16 gauge wire and be fine so long as you kept it under 50'. This thing has PLENTY of power to rip through tall weeds and clean up edges. Big reason I got this was dual-feed + the highest amp. Should last a long time, though I mistakenly thought it was a true A/C motor, but they use a rectifier to convert A/C to D/C to a brushed DC motor. Not sure if this trimmer has a built-in over-current/thermal protection circuit, but haven't ran into any issues with moderate usage on 90-degree days. The actual trim wire used is pretty thin, so you do go through the cord pretty quickly, but it cuts effectively—especially with the dual feed. It doesn't have a variable-speed trigger so if you want to go slower than max RPM, you just need to keep tapping the trigger a certain frequency to achieve a slower desired RPM. No big deal. OTHER ATTACHMENTS Since buying this, I've purchased two separate attachments, the rotary tiller (used twice) and and the pole-saw attachment (These are Ryobi "Expand It" series attachments). Both worked very well and the motor had no shortage of power or bogging down (cutting 3" mesquite limbs). Tiller is geared very low so it doesn't turn super fast but so long as soil is relatively moist it will do the job. I wouldn't use these for heavy-duty work for a business or anything, but for light duty stuff around the house they've been great so far.

Solid machine
i have two of these, one setup as a weed whacker, the other has a chainsaw tooth type blade on it. My weed whacker version does a great job, the one with the brush blade is amazing. The blade fits well and solid, It cuts through 3" thick trees without effort. Now to be honest, Greenway does not recommend using this type of blade on their machines, although they do work well, I think this may be more for possible liability concerns if some one does something stupid and blames the machine and not their poor or possibly dangerous actions. Mine has worked very well with one of these blades and allowed me to clear heavy brush, vines and small trees from my yard. Just be careful and don't inadvertently add yourself to the list of Darwin Award recipients. ;=)

Muy bueno!!!
La he usado 1 vez y quedé satisfecho.
